Hey all. Close to getting my first Ferrari, a 355. What has drawn me to it is the noise! Wow! Research indicates the Capristo is the way to go to get the best noise out the back. So that was the route I was going to go. However..... a car I'm keen on and going to see at the weekend could come with a Fabspeed back box (not currently fitted but could be as part of the deal) It would be a fraction of the price of the Capristo as it is "used" (less than 1000 miles on it) The info I'm getting from a well respected specialist is that Fabspeed, Capristo and Tubi make the best quality exhausts, he believe the Capristo and Fabspeed are on par with each other for noise, its just not many people have the Fabspeed so you don't hear many opinions (does seem most have the headers not the back box) So anyone on here have the Fabspeed backbox? Or anyone heard one and have an opinion? Also Fabspeed headers, aside from the better reliability, is there an improvement in sound with their headers?

Pretty keen aye mate. In all seriousness. I have Fabspeed headers and Capristo catback. Used to have stock headers with a Tubi catback. Changed mainly due to factory headers leaking and Capristo has a bit more volume to it. Fabspeed headers were the economical option but I was hooked on the Capristo a long time ago. In hindsight, I think the perfect combo would be Tubi headers with Capristo catback. Fabspeed headers are 4-1 collector instead of Factory / Tubi 4-2-1. It changes the tone and there is a loss of the high end scream. No experience with the Fabspeed catback but from the limited videos I've watched, sounds more like Tubi. In which case, see this video and decide which one you like more. 1st sound you hear is Tubi, 2nd is Capristo.
Re headers I think the tubi top end scream comment is aspirational- tubis come w heat blanket so better protect the engine bay and they match the 4/2/1 of the oem design. The main benefit of 4/2/1 is low end power not top end scream. Fab speeds actually have more top end power at the expense of low end. Re the muffler if you’re looking for f1 sound at WOT it’s capristo or bust. I’ve never heard anyone rave about a fabspeeed muffler (if you have one please comment), and most of the Tubi muffler support seems to be abt lower rpm noise.
Tubi headers stand heads and shoulders above other brands. They look gorgeous and sound great. Many prefer the high pitch Capristo exhaust muffler. I prefer the lower tone of the Tubi Competition muffler. I don't know what backbox means ... must be a down under thing where a kangaroo has a box in the back instead of the front ?
For me it’s the second one the video I like the higher pitch and when driving under load (meaning at speeds) it sounds even better Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I am running Fabspeed headers.. they were the quality but economical option. as mentioned above.. due to their 4-1 design.. some of the high pitch is lost at the very top of rpms.. which I noticed immediately.. when stock headers were removed.. but I would agree.. tubi headers hands down is the best.. but at their cost premium.. I had the headers installed during my engine out.. and was simply not willing to pay the cost for the tubis.. as for Fabspeed F355 exhausts.. they don't really have a traditional exhaust like tubi. capristo, nouvalari etc.. their "exhaust" offering is the x-pipe design, with basically resonators.. there are some vids but never heard in person.. then they have their Challenge style straight tube setup.. which I bought and ran for a summer.. it was just loud and that's it. and as a result, very little difference in sound when bypass opened.. it was just loud all the time.. and crazy loud idle. as basically the tubes connected straight to cats and out the tips.. it lacked any type of refined tone, as does a traditional "box" type design. it was fun, but got tired of it quickly and sold it..
As usual. Mitchell nailed it. One note: while the Tubi headers are best and sound great, the stock headers sound just a bit better. My guess is because they are just a bit thinner. FWIW, I actually pulled a new Capristo muffler off my car when I purchased it and replaced it with a Tubi. Much prefer the Tubi.
Thanks for the replies guys, appreciated. I didn't proceed with the car in question, I've now found and placed a deposit on a completely stock car, so I get to chose my exhaust set up. Based on the above, videos etc it has to be a Capristo I think, also their switchable set up so I can control the valves. Headers can stay OEM for now, probably Tubi as and when they need replacing. Just trying to decide whether to do something with the CATs. And yeah I'm a Brit not an Aussie
