Does anyone know the origins of that colour, ie why it is called that way? And what was the first model with that colour?

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Chris,
I don't know the official answer but I suspect it goes something like this: argento is the Italian word for silver, the Nurburgring is the famous track in Germany. Back in the day the Germans raced silver cars "silver arrows" perhaps its a Ferrari homage to the silver arrows? If anyone knows the real answer Im interested too. I have an argento 550

Dean, yes, my thinking went along those lines as well...but the silver arrows were Auto Union and Mercedes...the Alfa Romeos - including Enzo's - were red. So why a homage at rivals?

AN is a funny color. My 550 is AN. I wonder if AN back then is like white today. It is rumored that white is the hot color. Many 458's are coming that way.

My 99 550 is AN also, so would be curious if we could find the origin of the color's name. Does anyone know how common AN is on the 550?

My 2004 575M is also Argento Nurburgring. Great color with the Nero interior with Bianco stitching.

Argento Nurburgring in Italian is Silver Nurburgring as a tribute to the famous German track.

Argento Nurburgring is the metalic Silver optional color. You don't see a lot of 550s and 575Ms in Argento Nurburgring.

Bianco avus or white does seem to be a popular color on the 458 Italias. IMHO white or Bianco avus kills the lines of the 458 Italia.

Argento Nurburgring is now listed as on of the "Ferrari Historical Colours".

Xenu, where can I find more info on Ferrari's Historical Colours and do you know what the first model in AN was?

My 2003 575M is Argento Nurburgring as well. Nero interior with grey contrast stitching .
I always get compliments on how classy it is...I think the color really shows off the elegant lines of the Maranello.

Absolutely agree, I never was a big fan of silver cars but it looks great on the 550, the darker colors loose the fluid lines. I love the look of mine with shields, red calipers, black dash and carpets and two tone grigio medio Daytona seats with charcoal piping and inserts. Dark quilted stitching sets off the rear shelf and headliner nicely too.

The Prancing Horse magazine of the FCA in its 4th Q 1996 issue #121, pp, 13 - 15, gives the origin of the name - the 550 had its introduction at that track on 7/20/96 with cars driven by Eddie Irvine, Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauder and Jody Schekter.

I remember the introduction in 1996, I may even have an article about it somewhere, but funnily all the cars driven in front of the public were red :)

My 2000 456 is Argento I believe. It's in Md. so I can't check right now. Is Argento and Argento Nurburgring one in the same? I did a search and found some color charts. But there isn't such good information available online that I could find. They should be a sticky IMO.

My cars color appears to be a dead match for the wheels. The pictures in this thread can't be used for comparison though.
