Ok I did this before. Don't think I got a good reply. Got a 2004 Spider with a stock (yea I know) radio. I don't want to blow the windows out. I really want to leave the head unit in place. I just want a way to add Ipod. Any suggestions? If I have to change the head unit what is a good option. Specialty shop or D.I.Y? I am pretty good. I have pulled my car apart a few times.

Thanks in advance to any ideas.

    Drive fast but safe.

I usually put an alpine deck in with full ipod control/ we also do an led color change from blue to green to match the stock dash lights. Then putting in at lest new door speakers and an 2 ch amp is necessary. The next step is a 4 ch amp with one or 3 subwoofers.
If you want to keep the stock radio it is possible to install an ipod cable that will charge the ipod and have a direct audio input to the becker. The becker also has 4 x pre amp outputs that we can hook amplification to and it works fine... the only draw back is you always have to turn your ipod on and and control the ipod from the ipod. There are many choices for radios ck another thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=264383 Let me know if I can help as Phoenix is not that far away!

OK just did this on my 360 (except I just got the aux output cables so I could do XM).

here is becker for ipod cable: http://www.beckerautosound.com/Ipod%20cable%20list.html

Here is becker for AUX RCA's : http://www.beckerautosound.com/Porsche/aux_input_CR_CDR%20220.html

Becker in NJ's phone number: 201-773-0976

Here is link to the Becker site- you can order for the current series Ipod (ignore website & call them) I think its around $100

If you have the CD changer you will lose that capability...

    1. Get the 2 metal pieces & slide them in the stereo (they are marked R & L) may be in your tool leather folder or your owners folder with stereo stuff. If not you can buy them also from Becker for change...

    2. once they slide in- Pull out stereo.

    3. Remove the removal tools before you reinstall it- will slide back in & lock. The ones from becker you need to push the lock back in to slide tool back out when the stereo is out.

    4. Becker sends the block & connector that will go where the CD changer plugged in.. BOTH BLOCKS (yellow/blue if memory serves me right) related to the cd changer need to be unplugged else you will not get the aux option to appear (ask me how I know this)

    5. Once you unplug the changer & replug in new block to ipod (or other aux) it will show the aux option where the cd changer button was-- here is how:

AUX can be switched ON if NO cd changer is connected. An external unit (ipod,XM,walkman etc) can then be operated via the cd changer AF connections. For selection , request user menu (User menu is requested by pressing & holding function button 2 for longer than 4 seconds, in order to quit press end). Press multifunction button "AUX" to select between ON & OFF. The setting is saved automatcally.

    Thats it.

NOW, for anyone doing this with AUX output added for XM or anything else-- if you get an annoying whine when your car is running in background that will not go away here is what you need to do... disconnect the RCA jacks between the new becker piece & your RCA cable- you need to ADD a "ground loop isolator" here is an example:

    http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS354&q=ground+loop+isolator&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=6226094102873292631&ei=B4MAS-i8OI7TnAft6r0Q&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBsQ8wIwAA#ps-sellers

I had to do this because mine whined like a biatch once I installed the XM controller to the AUX RCAjacks... so if you have a whine this will cure it..
& yes- you can mount the XM antenna under the dash above the steering column- there is a hole up there it will slide into out of site & reception is fine!

    Good Luck!

    Thanks,

A couple of real good options. I think I will use the Becker cable option with an upgrade to the speakers and maybe an amp. I went by Scottsdale Ferrari since I posted and they recommended a few good installers they use a lot. Really great thanks guys.

I purchased cable (w/charge adapter) for my 2000 360, but decided to keep use of my CD Player. If you want one I will let both go for $50.00 plus shipping. contact:

(see #4) Double check that the changer does NOT have power running to it. And, at the risk of appearing insulting (I'm not, I made this mistake on my install), make sure, if getting the signal from the headphone jack you have sufficient output volume.

Oh, and if your iPod is a touch (latest Gen, running 3.x) and you are running from the "dock" port make sure your adapter is matched....made that mistake, too.....

Ok so I called Becker. Here is what I was missing. I never had a changer. So I did not know that you had to push the cd button a few times to get to Aux. Once I tried that it worked like a charm. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with guidance.
