I didn't want to pollute the Spitfire thread any more than it already has been, and I couldn't find a general aircraft thread in this forum, so anyway...

I lined up behind this today. First one I've seen in the flesh.

Any guesses? (And yes, my prop is slightly in the way but it's the best one I got in the time I had)

Something tells me he'll be here in 2016 as well, but he might demand one of these to get out as quickly as possible once his work is done.

Sorry Steve,I was/am a little confused by the thread title.

I saw in,about 1992/3(just prior to his death in an aircraft accident),Guido Zuccolis's,both CAC Boomerang(the only airworthy one(then???),and his Hawker Sea Fury,at an airshow at the world war 2 aerodrome at Woodstock(FNQ)....about 40Klms west of Townsville.
This is/was an aerodrome used by,both,Aussie and US forces.

In the same show was the, late Ross Pay's Spitfire.................................................

they did a VERY emotional party piece.................................................................

blasting down the airstrip('cos that's all it was/is),behind each other.....several times.

You had to be there.......the sounds of the V12 and turboed radial were 'F'ing
    amazing..................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A remarkably good guess, based on the dodgy pic!
    See proper pic below.

Yes. I had no idea what to call the thread but on reflection it is a little misleading.
That sounds like an awesome occasion. I would have loved to see that.

I was lucky enough to get a good look around Zuccoli's Sea Fury during the early stages of its restoration in Darwin in '82/'83.
On the same day I also sat in the pilot's seat and rear gunners position of a B52, the refuelling station of a KC135, and the pilot's seat of a Mirage.
It was just me, dad, and the base commander who dad had somehow befriended (thanks dad!)

    No wonder I became a pilot! :)

my father, a sheetmetal worker, worked for CAC in Melbourne and made wings for Boomerangs and Wirraways.

Obsolete when they were new aircraft, but they were ours.

He also worked on the Sabre, which was quite good, American airframe with a Rolls Royce engine. Faster and lighter than the US version.

    Lol!
That explains it, then. I expected plenty of people to recognise it as a CJ, but when you popped up and said CJ4 I figured something was up!

Nothing in particular, other than its one of the newest versions of the CJ and I didn't realise there were any in Oz yet. In fact this one is N reg and I figured might be on a demo tour.

What I can say is the climb performance is unbelievable.
As you can see from the pic I was next to go immediately after it (so less than a minute later).
As I climbed through 1000ft it disappeared off my TCAS going through 10,000ft.
It must have been climbing at at least 4000fpm to have done that.

    :)

That's cool. The Boomerang (which I think is based at Temora) regularly comes to Parafield for a few days at a time. I live underneath the circuit area and can hear it a long way off.
It makes a very disinctive sound and looks wonderful in the air.

True. Considering he said 787 I wouldn't go hanging your hat on it, though. :)

Clive Caldwell used to say that the boomerang was named wrong. Because if you ever went out in it you'd have bugger all chance of ever coming back!
