Less Jet lag on the new ones Wes as they can pressurise them higher as there are no rivets to pop..At least they found a use for recycled garbage to build them…
Have they got new monitors for them Gaz ? Failed pressurisation has caused a few problems (MH370 ?? or is that considered rogue aircrew ??)
The last round dial queen of the sky was the 747 -300…Great Aeroplane!…The 747-400 was the first of the new generation tweaks…
I fly on whatever the foik has me sitting in any of the 12/13 row isle seats and gets me to my destination (and sometimes back) with out any dramas!!
It’s all new technology but not cutting edge like Steve’s machine JM…They build transport aircraft to a budget so it depends on the extras the airline wants to pay for…Bit like having an Fcar built at the factory…The price is for the basic car then you pay for the extras…
Yep, the 743 was the last of the classics - I was thinking not so much about the move to CRTs from analogue dials, but more the move from hydraulic actuators and steel cables to FBW. That to me marks the difference between new and old school aircraft. Kind of reminds me a bit of the debate between digital and analogue sports cars.
Interestingly the 747-8 which Cathay played a big role with Boeing in developing the jet was held back on the FBW technology so they could have pilots fly the -400 and the -800 in a single rating…The 777 was the big technology move and shares a common rating with the Dreamliner…
FBW is very old tech , the F-111 (designed in the late 50s) had a lot of FBW (syncros) but still had linkages running down the spine of the aircraft (hedging their bets), the AFCS was all FBW
But expensive JM…Transport Airliners had to be built for mass production at a price…The military aircraft were test beds for transport aircraft but the high technology lagged by many years ….Once they could work out how to mass produce it at a viable price they did it…
Now for something completely different- do you plan to do much recreational flying when you’re retired?
No I have so many other things to keep me busy…More brekkie runs with the Sydney Whomos some GGs and hopefully I can take the OHOS race car to the AGP with Ian…
Agreed. 787 is excellent, but 380 is best of the lot from a pax perspective. Haven't been on the 350 but I suspect that is also top shelf.
Not this year mate. I do look forward to catching up again though.. My youngest daughter is in her final year of high school and the end of year events clash with the rally. Same thing happened with the Canberra rally two years ago and my eldest daughter! Thankfully I don’t have any other children and should be free from now on
Wonder if anyone every worked out the total cost per NM for the Aussie F111 fleet over it’s lifetime?
Interesting someone mentioned MH370.. What’s the theories among the pilots here Asking out of interest nothing more
Bit like JFK and Marilyn Monroe…Lots of cover ups and documents lost…There were some interesting pax on board as well…Whom will ever know…
