That's impressive mate, at FL240! What levels did the winds start to drop off?

In the climb I was holding off around 35 degrees of drift.
    (Well, the autopilot was anyway...)

    Lol!

It was pretty windy everywhere. Around 70kt at 10,000ft.
    The gradient was very linear.

Strongest wind I saw was 116kt (215kmh) a minute or so before I took that pic.
That's not really strong for the mid 30s or anywhere near the jet stream, but as you say for FL240 it's very unusual.

My little thing would be going backwards.. but wouldn't get that high anyway!

Why did the last few pages disappear in this thread and we've rewound back to the airfield shot?

Very impressive take off, camera angle was amazing and looks like that plane has a lot of power.

    But...........

Why not show me how comfortable my flight will be in that video?

Vietnam Airlines were very happy to show you just how well that new plane maneuvers, but I don't care about that.

I want to know how comfortable I will be if I fly with them.

They should have left Boeing show off their new plane for the Paris Air Show and Vietnam Airlines were better off showing me how nice the inside of it is.

I wonder if it will be able to go above FL290 whenever there's icing around...

My mail is that regardless of whether or not they are certified to a ceiling of FL 410, 430 or whatever, the early B787s have been restricted to FL290 whenever they are anywhere near icing conditions.

Meaning; more likely to encounter turbulence, adverse headwinds etc.
    ie. LESS comfortable for passengers.

Because it won't be - no matter how big the windows or how low the cabin altitude, if they've gone with 9-abreast economy like many other 787 operators, it'll be awful.

That said, it's Boeing pilots doing the showing off to Boeing plans. I don't know if the plane is still awaiting delivery or what, but I guess if you're going to chuck one about then you might as well paint it up in someone's colours!

They got in trouble at Farnborough last year for some over-enthusiasm in a 787-9:

I thought Airbus did alright too though, with their closely-spaced A350 departure and A380 arrival:

Don't worry, the Aussie delivered ones will do Mach 2.7 at FL600 all day, every day.

    No, Dan.

I've done that flight twice in the last couple of weeks, but today was a day off for me.

    Now that we've gone to "Flydoc" call-signs, I'm 525.
    Who was it today?

Day off?? Lucky you :) I'm pretty sure it was '526'

I'm currently training someone up on 134.32. We got the early heads up on the direct tracking but then had a break and plugged in again just as they were transferred to Melbourne Departures on 129.4. I hadn't seen that leg a while, must have been on days off myself when you made your trips.

Ah fair enough. We generally head over there two or three times a week.

One of my Adelaide colleagues. Good guy.

As an aside, are there enough people here for a group warbird buy??
