gawd
I've had enuff,I'm gunna ling a friend, put on 'me leatherjacket, and go to the Rainbow Inn for the rest of the day.
A rather more distant view of Ed Force One than Steve's, as I was stuck doing work stuff. The longer runway is closed for most of the day for works this month, so I had my fingers crossed for easterly winds, as that would mean turning final right near the city (and thus, me)... alas, the Fremantle Doctor was in, and the best I could do was a crop from this give-me-all-the-zoom-you've-got shot, approx. 18-20km away. It's definitely a 747, but that's about all you can tell Hopefully a better shot tomorrow, departure is scheduled for 90 minutes after the An-225 arrival. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good job Mike. I got some footage here of it taking off which I was going to post and say it's on the way, but posting vids here turned out to be a major PITA. Funnily enough I was landing as it was taxiing out to the hold point. The crowds of people everywhere was amazing! There were hundreds of people lining every vantage point, so I waved as I went past.
LOL, I don't blame you! Reminds me of being at Avalon one year and seeing a Jetstar A320 arrival in between displays, complete with flight crew waving at the crowds during rollout. I bet they were glad not to have bounced it Didn't realise so many people were making an effort to go and see it though - I thought it would only be a few nerds (like me). Even the five-engined QF flight that stopped off here recently didn't attract that big of a crowd. It's a cool livery and a cool aircraft though, so I'm glad people are getting a good look. Hopefully all the Mriya-fest stuff (food vans mostly!) is still around by the time they leave, and the crew (and wind) look after us with a nice full-length RWY03 departure FWIW I've used streamable.com for short video uploads in the past (not here, but you just get a URL that's easy to post in a reply) and it's been pretty straightforward if you want to give that a go, but video is always a PITA on some level due to the size and difficulty of embedding across sites
Same thing here. I was on the day it arrived and there were plane spotters all over the place! Didn't know what all the fuss was about until I got into work and even then, I was still surprised at the number of people! I have to admit though, the livery is pretty cool...
nowhere near the size. But I like this vid from the CBR tower [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZGXwbPfwQs[/ame]
No really good Mriya pics, unfortunately - the wind failed to cooperate (again!) and after a good couple of hours of standing near the 03 threshold whilst that was the runway in use, the Antonov was about the third or fourth movement to occur after switching to 21. Booo. They did roll out to the end and taxi back past us very slowly, waving a Ukrainian flag and goosing the throttles a few times for LOLs behind the follow-me car, but a whacking great fence (that you couldn't stick a lens through due to the other fence keeping you back) made it impossible to take decent photos. Here's the best one(!) I got, plus some bonus Ed Force One and saucy rear views of the pride of Ukraine. In a similar vein but on a very small scale, I can remember taking off at Kwajelin in a C-130 fully loaded with spares for the F-111s and 30 ground crew where the loadie had the tail gate down so the Herc could back up with the tail over the water at the end of the runway as we needed the entire length to "just" make rotation before the end Image Unavailable, Please Login
Holy Crap! It's huge! I'd love to watch that thing take off. Although "lurch" might be a better word. Speaking of Ed Force One - here's one I took when it was in Canberra...Wait..no.. AIR Force one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's leaving at 5:30AM on Tuesday, so unfortunately there won't be much to see - I'll probably watch from home. There's a great pic from a local news helicopter showing some fun size comparisons: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CieJTHbUgAATqpR.jpg:large LOL That is also quite a nice looking 747, though it's pretty hard to make one look bad. I saw a picture somewhere a few weeks ago from an American who managed to get a photo of both Ed and Air Force One in the same shot - Iron Maiden getting ready to leave, and Barack dropping in for a visit
That's an epic shot! I catch those Alliance planes every week so very familiar with that bit of tarmac! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Had to laugh at this post by Hempy on another site today. "Avalon many years ago, during the Saturday 'night show', an F-111 about to light it up during a fly-by. P/A (with an RAAF sidekick at the ready): (Name and rank withheld to protect the innocent, but it starts with a J..), what are we about to see here? Sidekick: Well, it's called a dump and burn. It's very similar to lighting a fart.."
for Moretti, a pic of his favourite aeroplane, parked on the flightdeck of Intrepid. They sure are mean looking things up close. I had no idea how old they were - designed in 1959! The yellow cart is the air compressor used to spin up the engines, 2 x Buick big block V8's, 700hp needed to get the engines to 3000rpm. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You should have been able to guess the age Ian from the "fins" on the back Thanks for the photo, they really are an impressive skunkworks creation (not sure if the X-men had any real input )
