I think I've told this story, had all the pilots scared as hell about ejecting, they had an ejection a week at the time and our F-111s were sharing the hangar with the Ravens ...... you'd have enjoyed seeing them in real life Mikey From that article it shows the quality of our maintenance versus the USAF's, we rarely had either INS or ARS failures and ours was the A model analogue version, very hard to maintain and drifting INS was eventually updated via astral navigation. All our As were upgraded to F electronics and had Pave Tack bombing systems
The Ferraris will stay in the garage then .......... they're too scary in the wet ...... plus we all know no Ferrari owner drives their cars in the rain
Automatic star navigation systems in aircraft that old still seem like implausible magic to me. Still a bit p*ssed off they never gave any F-111s to the RAAF museum after retirement - they sent one to Pearl Harbour FFS!
Speaking of F-111s and how there aren't any in WA... this sim is also not in WA, but might be fun: Home | F-111 Flight Simulator
I did it once, only had San Francisco mapped from memory It was constantly booked out by the aircrew so when a timeslot became available I had to hurry
Missile selfie: Did this Aussie pilot just take the best 'Top Gun' photo ever? - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I reckon for a specifically "Top Gun" photo it still struggles to beat the inverted-over-a-747 picture from AF's 747 retirement, but it's still pretty excellent
