No, PP was implessed and thought it was fast enough but I'm waiting for an appointment at Ian's Supercar Services for a second opinion
Ferrari did this for this engine with the 400/412. Rather have carbs myself. Once set, leave them alone ... no problems. Pete
That's not the sort of injection I'm talking about Pete. If I wasn't too lazy to type, I'd tell you more Suffice to say, the injection I'm talking about keeps the original look and, importantly, sound, but gets rid of the BS ignition and mixture issues that we're plagued with from what is, let's face it, 60s technology. Of course, it's all reversible.....probably in less than a day.
Here's a MOTEC approved installer close to home. Not heard of these guys before City Performance Centre
Yes I'm aware that you can get throttle bodies that look very similar to carbs. I agree about ignition issues of the 60's technology but carbs are unfairly blamed for issues that are often caused by ignition or fiddling owners. My father was a carb specialist and we also had a neighbour that would fiddle with his Triumph 2500S ... the number of times my father would have to go over to set it back to how it was ... heck I do not have enough fingers to count. The other cause of problems is owners that do not drive their cars. When my parents had their car repair/service business my Mum would take certain owners cars out for a drive before they would even touch the car. She would give it a damn good thrash and only then was it worth servicing. When my father was service manager at an Alfa Romeo/Mercedes dealership the mechanics used to do the same, particularly with Alfa 33's. Where carbs shot themselves in the foot though was with automatic choke mechanisims. Thankfully with a side/down draught you don't need a choke (in New Zealand and Australia). A couple of pumps on the accelerator and she will fire ... just play with the throttle a bit (while driving) until warm. Pete
You are absolutely right, Pete. My GT4 ran flawlessly after I had the ignition done and the jetting corrected for 17000km. However, what you can never get rid of is the fuel starvation around corners, the stumble when you go from idle jets to mains at about 3000rpm and, if you don't want the car running stupidly rich, it's sometimes quite a pain in the neck. Here are photos of my engine bay with carbs and with throttle bodies. As I said, sound is identical, as is throttle response, but all the bad bits are gone. Also, as I said, one day and it's back to standard. Worth every cent to me. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually, I should take a photo of carbs and TBs from the same angle....to show the point I'm making.
Nice job. Fuel starvation, I've never experienced that in any car. But ive never raced an east west engjne. Pete
