It's called apparent wind. Very familiar to sailors - the faster your forward motion, the more power produced by the wind flowing over your sail (or aerofoil in this case).
Yeah. Kind of defies one’s idea of basic physics, but very cool. There’s a type of RC glider that also defies conventional thinking to achieve ludicrous speeds. Called “Dynamic soaring”
I did get a laugh outofthenews last night of somebody promoting their ‘zero carbon’ yacht entered i the S-H race this year...ground breaking stuff - a yacht with no diesel engine on board! Who’da thunk?
