Albuquerque has had them for some time, very profitable for the city. There are cameras at 20 intersections now with more on the way. The state has tried to regulate the city program and have compromised by sahring the fines or the city will have to lower the fines. Over 8.5K tickets in 2 years. Minimum fine $100 up for multiple offenders.

My wife got busted twice by the camera cops within a 4 minute period when she was up in Scottsdale a month or so ago. One of them was the camera van type. We were up there again for the NASCAR races last weekend and we made a point to find out where all the cameras were. Once you know where to look, it is easier to go a little faster. Although the vans can be tricky.

This is really bad. Someone should get go out and get enough signatures to put a proposition on the ballots for next election, and let the voters decide.

I agree. Although it is easy to just slow down when you're passing the cameras, once you know where they are. This is especially true on the 101.

Always, on my daily routes in Scottsdale, they almost always put the vans in the same spot. Plus my passport 8500 is a good companion.

Yeah and in the mean time watch all the car commercial's bragging about their 0-60 times. Makes a hell of a lot of sence to crack down on speeding while encouraging the same. Come to think of it, it does make allot of $cents$.

As many of you Ferrari guys know, people try to drive next to you to check out your car. As a result, you either need to blow past them to switch lanes (slowing down usually doesn't work and breaking on the SR 101 is not recommended with a car behind you paying more attention to your car than your break lights) or wait until they've seen enough and drive off. My car has nowhere near the sexy appeal of a Ferrari and if I want to switch lanes I have to burst to get ahead to do so. Camera's don't make a judgement call on something like that. A cop will.

It's funny when your close to Shea and the 101, people start braking. They got smart and put in 2 cameras though, one a bit further than the first to catch the people who slow down for the first one, then speed up.

It's just another excuse to take money for people...

These cameras are operated by private, for profit companies. Unless they can unequivocally match the driver photo to a driver's license photo and then match that to the registered owner of the car, they have no case. They routinely discard over 40% of the photos because the driver cannot be identified clearly, or, and this is most important, the registered owner of the car is not a human, such as a corporation, partnership, trust etc.
The law does not make the owner of the speeding vehicle liable for the infraction of the driver.
The simplest solution is to register the car to a different entity. It also works when the car is registered to a male with a female driver and vice versa. The photo ticket that is sent is a request for an admission of guilt, but unless you are served by an officer of the court it is not a valid citation. You can quite comfortably ignore the ticket until a process server turns up at your door. That is an expensive proposition for the company operating the cameras and they will only do it if the driver and the registered owner are clearly the same person, by matching drivers license photos to the picture on the ticket and then absolutely matching it to the registered owner data from the license plate.
Sometimes they will send out a request to the registered owner (corporate or otherwise) to indentify the driver where the camera company can't make the positive ID. Arizona law does not require the owner of the vehicle to identify the driver, and a mailed request to identify the driver can ABSOLUTELY be ignored with impunity.

It's really not as bad as it seems and anyone who pays a photo radar ticket without being served and proved to be the driver is simply making a tax donation.

To be honest, Id be more interested in your car than a Ferrari. I see Ferraris every day, so they arent that special to me, but that Porsche... Well, its a different story.

So let's pretend that I received a ticket in the mail yesterday for allegedly speeding on 101. Because it came via mail and not a process server, it's safe to ignore the ticket until someone comes around looking for me?
