I got some full throttle romps when it was all running strong. Wow, not for the faint of heart but instant grins for sure.
Jason, thanks for the kind words and as always, thanks for your unwavering support over the years. Sent you a pm. John
It's an M48 so it's an oldie and lacking the drivers to run a 12 with sequential FI, two IAC's and cook packs. It and the harness is up for grabs
Paul, the first few pictures of the paint with the yellow marking .....too much glare, what am I suppose to be looking for ? It looks ok to me, and I cleaned my glasses The last few pictures I can see the paint difference that needs to be corrected. Can you explain what you will need to do to those spots?
The door shut lines and clamshell shut lines are obvious but the left side of the rear clamshell is a different red to the cabin but thats because the primer bled through. Where Im pointing and below is where the red changes colour then the two small patches are to the right of that area. Then the roof has solvent pop which you cant see in the pic but picture applying carbonated paint and the fizz drys in the paint.
Tidied up the gearbox a bit today so its ready to accept the M engine. Didn't get carried away just made it look nicer. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dry sump tank swing press alteration bothers me. Debating how to fix that. The last BB I put the Testarossa engine in I modified the alternator mount so the tank remained unmodified. I also reversed the bolt so you could remove the alternator easily. In its current configuration would would need to cut the bolt off to remove the alternator if there was a charging system concern then figure out a way to bolt it back on. Rear cross bar has seen better days. We'll plug weld the extra 20 holes we don't need and put the factory tabs back on for the rear heat shield that were cut off in the past. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Could ya do mine. That looks great!! What are you using or is it painted? I have been using spray 9 to clean things up before it gets reassembled. BTW, The split coller worked great to remove the spark plug tubes. We machined one end to fit over the lip for the boot and dropped a spark plug socket down over the plug, used a puller pushing on the socket to take them out, it worked great. Had to send to Erie, PA for plating. Fast and fair. Noone in long island does it anymore.
It's on its way. . . Not. I am in Fl and it is waiting for me to get back, then the reassembly begins and the driving continues.
Several coats of paint. A combo of base/clear and single stage plus primers and what looks like an etch primer / sealer on the metal. Im counting around 14 layers of product. With that off and a new paint job the car will be faster because it'll weigh less! Image Unavailable, Please Login
remember mercedes did this in the 60th because their racing cars have been to much weight so the name "silver arrow" ( silberpfeil ) was founded
this car has some nice bits on it for sure. when "newmanized" this will be quite a machine!!! the m engine will be quite special indeed. love it.
Ready for paint and a few other things. The rear shelf will be recovered now that the speakers have been removed. Interior always looks worse when you take it out and look at it. All additional wiring will be gone too. Windshield stays in because its original and undamaged. Back window came out with a push of my hand. Like most of these cars, its been apart more than once so the original screws and bolts have long been replaced with generic bits so Ill put the right ones back on when I put it back together. Sand stripping starts next week. Found most of the wiring went nowhere. Found some runs under the 1/4 windows and both ash tray pockets. Single drilled hole under DOT card and lower painted rivet are the remnants of the original (missing) headlight specification plaque that was riveted to the jamb. I have first dibs on it as a rebuildable core. I have no intended project for it, maybe Ill put it in my lawn tractor!
Rear clam cross brace repaired from previous mod that cut the center out. Rear inner fenders gaps filled in up to relocated upper structure so wider than stock looks stock. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
