I'd like to hear what you think are the best handling Ferraris of all time. How do the 8's compare to the 12's and what technical break throughs in suspensions provide modern F-cars advantages to the classics. Cheers, Jim

I'd have to say the Enzo. It has the newest technologies, and its built on a actual formula 1 chasis if i'm correct. Has the highest g's of 1.1 give or take a little, and well it was built to be a formula 1 car for the road.

    1-360Modena
    2-512TR
    3-328GTS

I am sure there are others but can't speak intelligently w/ no frame of reference.

I would go with the Enzo too, its the most advanced Ferrari ever made, and was made to be a formula 1 car for the road.

If we are talking road cars, then probably the 355 Challenge 1995 model (street legal). Incredible handling and stability, proven on the track for many years. Obviously not as fast as an Enzo, but sticks like glue and is neutral in turns. The only Enzos I have seen on the track have had their doors blown off by the 355 and 360CH cars. Well I wouldn't want to wreck a million dollar car either.

For pure handling, but track-only, the 360GT hands down.

From personal experience the 360 Modena/Spider has awesome handling with the right tires.

Tom, have you ever owned an F355? If so, how does it compare with the rest of those? I was sure it handles just as good as a 360.

    My guess is F2004, F2003, F2002, F2001, F2000, 333SP.

    Did I miss anything?

As far as technical breakthroughs the most important has been lightening the cars while increasing torsional rigidity and bhp. The 360 is much lighter, yet more rigid than the 355 due to all-aluminum construction. The Enzo is mostly carbon fiber, again very strong but light. Light cars just handle better than heavier cars due to reduced inertia.

In addition, superb engineering allows very high bhp outputs from relatively small, light engines. 400 bhp from 3.6 liters is astonishing compared to the same output from a Corvette whose engine is almost twice the size and weight.

Mid engined cars get the advantage of low polar moments of rotation which make them more neutral in turns. The Enzo and CS get ceramic brakes which create shorter stopping distances. The V-12's put out more torque, so can pull out of a turn with more power than the V-8's, but front engined layouts make them prone to higher polar moments, so they are more difficult in a turn than a mid mounted V-8 (or V-12 as in the Enzo).

Anti-roll bars, self adjusting suspensions, ASR/ABS all play a part.

In short, there are a lot of components to "handling", and handling for street usage is very different than handling for track usage.

    308 GT4 handles circles around regular 308s and 328s
Enzo is very tight and responsive

Then form what Ive heard, the Stradale is among the best handling as well.

I'd have to agree. 10 of 11 races, the F2004 is a good car. Of course, MS might win with a Yugo.

I can say from my own real world experience that I felt the most fearless in my second 550.

    It was a Fiorano.

No, I haven't nor test driven one....

If I were to speculate, I'd say the 355 handles better than my 328 and my 512TR for certain...However, I am not sure if it would rival my 360.

Most Ferraris are wonderful handlers. That said how they feel and handle is also related to driver skill and ease of drive.

Many feel the 348 is a 'bad handling ferrari' when in truth, it simply is more of a handful to drive at the limit compared to its predates. the 328 and its succ. the 355.

I find it amusing that some complain of the 355's power steering as being a problem, etc etc as well.

All these things add character to a car and make it a better drive. In terms of absolutes, I am sure anyone would agree that a Enzo wins in road cars and the F-2004 in race cars, simply due to a technology edge over its pred. That said I would take a P4 everyday anyday anywhere, even if it is more of a handful to drive and not as fast around some tracks due to its ancient brakes, then either of the above cars.

A friend brings his 512BBLM (non-silhouette) to most FCA track events. It is a bear to get around the track. He has driven my 360 CH as well as many others, and while he admires their handling, technology, etc. he would rather be in the 512. He says it's just "more fun".

Depends upon what trips your trigger. I prefer driving my Dino to the 360; more "involving" and what a great sound.

After driving all the ferrari range at high speed with anger on X Boxs Project Gotham with my lads, i would say the F50 handels the best, but that ***** of an enzo is a swine to catch on the straights.

I've owned 2 348s, a TS and a Sypder. One 355, and a 360. The 360 is far and away the best handler. I've also driven a 550 and a 575. While they are great cars, the 360 is by far the best handling Ferrari I've ever driven. An example: I have a favorite corner near my house. The 348 Sypder would take that at about 55 mph, with the rear end starting to slide. The 355 at about 58 - 59, and the 360 at 63 -64 miles per hour. I haven't been able to try in on a 12 cylinder, but I suspect even lower speeds.

I ahven't driven a Stradale or Enzo, so I can't comment on them. Given their pricing and focus, I suspect even faster.
