In honor of many threads depressing threads such as these http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313222 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=316245 Seriously, other than the race track, what is the best state/place to exercise your car? What state has the most lenient laws? I'm sure this thread will bring out the comedians
I was going to say Dallas North Tollway between 380 and 121, on Sunday mornings... but umm, nevermind...
Behind the wheel of those cars with the blinky red and blue lights. Don't have to have the lights on though. Just drive as you please. Yakking on the cell phone all the while. It's something about those lights...
From one of those threads you mentioned: "For all who like to ride fast, beware of the new Speed Law in Illinois that went into effect Jan. 1, 2011. If you are caught going 30 mph over the posted speed limit it is a $1500.00 fine and a possible jail sentence of 6 months (Most likely jail time for repeat offenders), if you are caught going 40 mph over the posted speed limit, the police officer will take you straight to jail, finger print and book you for a misdemeanor felony and a $2500.00 fine." Wow, that's harsh. Not sure where you can speed these days and expect to totally get away with it? I'm sure those harsh fines mean a diminishing revenue stream as who's going to want to risk that? Buy a classic, chug along and don't worry about speeding.
Set your sights for The Middle of Nowhere, and when you final get there, put the pedal down. Nevada, Montana ... the wide open spaces.
on the right side of a school bus when the lights are flashing.... In all seriousness the racetrack is the only place to even bother going fast. I would rather spend fine money and jail time doing something else other than wishing I hadn't done it in the first place. There are too many factors on the road; texting teenagers, old drivers, mothers in mini-vans facing backwards hitting their kids, and the police. I enjoy the 40-85 sprints better than the felony 100+ marks on public roads anyway. You can do them more often and not get in any 'real' trouble. On the racetracks I like to see nothing but the 100+ side of the speedo.
Too funny! When a friend of mine first got an Alfa 164 back in the mid 90's, he let me drive it up and down the Dallas Tollway at 4:00 in the morning until we ran out of coins. I hit 140 and he hadn't even had the car a week. Now THAT'S a friend.
The last ticket I got (3 years ago) was on a back-back-back road in Montana. AND they reported it so my insurance caught it and jacked up my rates. I had to give him all my cash on the spot or he was taking me in and ferrying me to a Western Union office or ATM machine. All that for 73 in a 60.
Northern Utah and Southeastern Idaho on the way to Jackson Hole from Park City. 2 lane roads with mountains to the east and flatlands to the west and flat as a pancake for 15 miles. Roads are generally smooth with fences on both sides. Only problem is watching out for small animals and turkey vultures eating their carcasses. Hitting a 20lb vulture at 150 mph will definitely leave a mark. Very little traffic in fall and spring. A few big rigs every now and again but cops are rare outside of the few small towns you go through.
Behind a police escort... usually on the "rally" day of a 2-3 day exotic car festival; e.g. here in Central Florida it's Celebration (coming up) and Cars for the Cure (in February).
I've never done this, but I heard the "Utah Fast Pass" is a pretty good deal. Drive as fast as you want that weekend, but you can't pass the lead car. I buddy of mine got "clocked" at 170+ MPH in a ZO6 Vette. MDS
All kidding aside: Hwy 318 in Nevada, when they close it down twice a year for unlimited speed runs. http://www.silverstateclassic.com/
