I dyno'd my F40 again today on a DynoJet at a NW Region Ferrari Club event. When I dyno'd it for the first time back in early 2005, I got lower HP numbers than I expected of:

    Max HP: 438.0 @ 6500 RPM
    Max Tq: 379.5 @ 5250 RPM

(see this thread from back then: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46648)

Since then, the only changes I've made to the car are a major service, and added the Razzo Rosso chips from Carobu. The results were much better.

    Max HP: 488.9 @ 6900 RPM
    Max Tq: 421.9 @ 5200 RPM

    30.06 barometric pressure

    0.21 vapor pressure

    59.5 degrees F

Correction factor of .96 SAE (someone explain that to me please?)

I uploaded a PDF of the printouts here:

    http://ferrari.stevejenkins.com/downloads/F40%20Dyno%203-18-05.pdf

My mods are: larger IHI turbos, Tubi muffled bypass tubes, Tubi Sport exhaust, Razzo Rosso chips. I have an LM exhaust system and non-muffled bypass tubes for it, but we had some trouble installing it (bypass tubes were welded wrong in Italy). So hopefully I'll be able to get over the 500 HP at the rear wheels mark once the new exhaust is in. :) I also have some Lotec chips that I plan on trying soon.

I'm much happier with the car's performance now!

It was fun watching Steve’s car on the dyno. After the operators looked at the first run results, they added another huge (looked like an anchor chain from the Queen Mary) chain onto the back of his car.

Adding the chain *after* the first run was hilarious! :)

Watching the flames shoot out the back of his car after he let off made us all giggle like school kids. What a spectacle!

Running 92 Octane Shell V-Power from the pump. I had planned to put higher octane stuff in, but never got time. Maybe that would help me push it over 500.

Pics and videos of the event are in this thread:

I subscribed to that thread since more and more pics/vids keep getting posted as people unload their digital cams.

I was giggling like a little girl right along with you. Those vids are great on the pics thread. I had never seen the fire come out of my car before! LOVING IT!

Oh - and I have one additional mod I forgot about. I put the Razzo Rosso drop gear in there when I had the major done. Which means my top speed on the dyno today was only 180, but with the current gearing, getting there is a lot more fun. ;)

    Steve,

Where did you find your 18" wheels? Also, what seats are using? I have been looking for 18" OZ/Enk. wheels and shells seats. I know the seats are a tough fit sometimes in the F40.

    Thanks

I don't have any good sources as mine all came with the car from the previous owner. I also got all the original stuff fortunately.

    Steve,
A 25% mix of 100 octane should be good for at least another 20 RWHP.
And, cams like the ones in my car can probably add another 35-50 rwhp.

Were those custom machined? If so, by whom? If not, were they the Michelotto cams?

Rod at FAI had them made to a specification he has used in the past with good success. Very drivable. His number is 949 631-6373. I also have the upgraded turbos and Tubi exhaust.

The blue graphs are stock. Red graphs are our last tune. HP numbers shown are corrected and at the rear wheels.

With 600+ RWHP I can imagine it borders on "beyond scary to drive." :) I know you've also done extensive work to your block, right? Larger displacement, etc. It's impressive stuff, but more than I want to do at this point. If I do the cams that will probably be the last upgrade I make for a while. I'm looking to get above the 500 mark and call it good for now. I already have trouble with the rear wheels breaking free at 100 MPH sometimes. :)

I'll give Rod a call and see what he has to say. Thanks!

too much wheel spin. 100-200 would be better :)

I don't think the F40 would spin its wheels for a mile... maybe a 1/4 mile though.....

standing mile is a good test.

Yes, use Hoosiers, but need 18" wheels I think?

a standard F40 already has more power than it has traction....so more power would be wasted for the first few seconds. Hence, my suggestion of 100-200...but i was talking KPH or, i guess 50-150mph? maybe? so wheelspin doesn't come into the equation.
