0523 GT as the prototype was said to have been dismantled; destroyed. Was there a 'junk pile' at the factory or near by that was used for discarded parts?
Phil Hill talked about going back to see Enzo Ferrari in 1970 as I recall. He asked Enzo Ferrari about the 'junk pile' and it seems Enzo didn't want to talk about the old parts and that sort of put the whole meeting in a poor mood. Enzo thought the purpose of the meeting should have been about 'him' and not junk...
Where was the 'junk pile' at the factory?

There are many stories from 'back in the day' about the junk pile- something that existed back to at least the 1950's. Parts, chassis, running gear- just about anything from 'last year's race car'.
Photos of it were featured in magazines and books- Michael Dregni's Inside Ferrari had some shots, IIRC.
I believe there are shots of the junk pile on Fchat but I don't know what threads they would be in.

Was this story ever confirmed ? Which chassis did Bizzarrini use for the prototype? Is there any proof?

I still Iike 0523 GT for the no development money angle plus it's previous history with Enzo Ferrari. However I will with interest; leave your questions for the experts...

For me, the most interesting/intriguing Ferrari book I've seen and have in my modest personal library, not counting any parts or service/work shop manuals.

I do too and before his death Giotto claimed in many interviews that the car was his driver , this is the exact type of thing Bizzarrini loved doing. As an example look what he did when he built the bread wagon .
