What is the background of this book? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2230904764&category=35932 more specifically... i know this thing is rare... i believe it was given out by Enzo Ferrari himself to specific people... what it the complete title? How large a volume is it (# of pages) ...What was the topic(s) covered... When was it produced? Did he have other printings? Updated printings? Ive heard about this book but only bits and pieces and conflicting data at that... considering its signed this seems like a great price right now... but i'd like more info... Thnx GT
Grant, the title of this book is simply "Ferrari," but it's commonly referred to as the "Big Red Book." All of these books carried the printed (as in, done by the printing press, not Enzo's own hand) signature of Enzo on the title page and are sometimes passed off as being "autographed" copies when, in fact, they are not! I suggest you verify whether that is also the case with this particular example before buying.
Grant, after looking more closely, it appears that this photo on the left might show the title page with the "printed signature." The autograph in the photo on the right appears to have been dedicated to a specific individual.
That makes it a good buy at $200 doesn't it?? Jack Habits wants $300 for a Business Card signed by Enzo! You'd be busy a lot longer translating The red Book from Italian. Wayne, Is this the bio Title "My terrible Joy" or something like that, originally?
Thx Wayne... appreciate the info... Yeah... i agree Speedy308.. for less you get the signature and a rare volume - agreed its in Italian but what the hey.... maybe someday i can learn the language or get it translated... still a valuable addition to the library... one doesnt come up for sale too often... Thx again guys... all info and opinions welcome... by the way... anyone out there actually OWN one?? GT
I questioned the seller for clarification and received the following response: it may be I have not been able to explain: this book has been gifted from Enzo Ferrari to my uncle in 1975. In the first page there is a printed signe in the second a signed "autograph" by Mr. Ferrari. I don't know the real value of an originally signed book so I put this value. If You are really interested I can make a scan... Thnks, Matteo Ricchetti He attached the same two photos that I posted before.
I have that book that was given to me by a Ferrari Club in Majano (Friuli). I would be willing to sell it, shipping would be less as I live in pasadena CA. cvalsi@earthlink.net
Well, somebody lay a couple of Benjamins down on it! borsari, is yours Italian version also, or in English? Signed also????
My book has the signature of Ferrari, but I tend to believe that it is not hand written, but printed on the page as part of the printing. it also is in Italian and has a dedication to me by the President of the Ferrari Club Friuli Nord-est, which is located in Majano Friuli.
Wow! It took off! Up to $327.US. I think I see ************ trying to knock it down. He knows what that signature is worth.
it certainly did take off... i got outbid after a day of wishful thinking that i got one heck of a bargain... way too rich for my blood now though... i hope it goes to a good home... insert sniff, tear & quivering lower lip here... GT
