Hello - Would anyone happen to know what the factory settings / distances were for the flow screws within the KE units?

I have a very slight in-balance on No. 12 which is causing driveability issues in the lower revs / gears and just wanted to get the unit out again to check.

    Thank you.

if it is only on no. 12 then the adjustment srew is not responsible for this. but if in lower revs you have the problem then I think the mixture is too lean.
you have a car with cat or without?

Without cats. I don't mean the mixture adjustment screw for the plunger, I mean the 6No. inside the metering head itself.

The way I see it, the external adjustment screw affects all those in that metering head, so even when I tweek, 12 is still out balance with the rest, you can just hear it when fine tuning. Im going to make up a test rig to see what flow rates I get out of the injectors first but when I strip the unit down, I just wanted to see if the measurements were in sync with the recommendations.

may be one of the injectors not work right?
just now I don´t know what screws you mean. could you please post a photo? normaly you can not adjust each single outlet when I remember right. but long ago I was working on a K- or KE jetronic, even my renault 5 turbo 2 has the same system

I have some info that I can email you just send me your email address. From the info I have it looks like the measurements vary between -5.17 to -5.34 measured in hundredths of a millimetre. I recently did some flow tests on my car when setting up my fuel system after having the distributors rebuilt. I did flow tests to get things close to 6ml per 1 minute of flow by adjustment of the mixture adjustment screw located within the air metering unit. Have you done some flow tests first? Please let us know what you find with your car.

Many thanks - I'll PM you my email address

I'm picking up my test pipes tomorrow. I'm going to try firstly without injectors attached and then with.

I'm assuming your 6ml at 1 minute was with injectors attached?

Well I did some tests however as I only had old injectors, I tested without them attached. First tests were carried out yesterday.

This is the strange thing. Firstly I took the car for a drive just to make sure I had the same symptons. I let the car warm up before setting out and sure enough I was still getting the hesitations at lower revs.

So after allowing it to cool a little I took my first tests and got a very high reading on No. 7. I was getting 8ml on all ports however had 17ml on port No. 7! I thought this was it, I was onto the issue.

However, today without running and on a totally cold engine, all of my results are even at both idle and at approximately 3/4 open throttle position.

Results Im getting are around 8ml / 9ml per minute at idle and 74-75ml / min at 3/4 throttle on all ports (without injectors)

Im guessing this is within parameters so now Im stumped! .

Graham sorry for the delay in responding to your post. I thought I would add to your thread so maybe some others here could chime in on a possible cause for your issue of a low flow rate on the number 7 fuel line. As I had discussed with you I did some tests on my injectors and fuel system after having my distributors rebuilt by CIS Flowtech. The WSM states at idle you should expect 6ml of fuel per minute.

I held my air sensor plate in an approximate idle position of 1/8" below the bottom edge of the air metering unit just using some cardboard and tape. I then jumped the blue/white wire at the starter to run the fuel pumps for the specified time and measured the fuel. Adjustment of the mixture screw will result in more or less fuel delivery, I was able to get things close enough to begin the process of balancing the fuel injection system. Others may chime in on why you were seeing a different flow rate at only one of the lines on the distributor, my guess could be the injector, the line, some debris in the distributor or something out of spec when you rebuilt your distributor. Please let us know how things work out.

Thanks Jeff. I carried on testing, both with engine cold and engine hot and the tests were all coming out consistent after that initial curve ball on No.7. I used your system of holding the plate just on idle and I was getting 6 / 7ml on each port. I also tested with more throttle, plate about 3/4 open and again I was getting consistent readings on all ports at around 74 -75ml.

Put it all back together and took her for a test drive and still the same symptons...grrr!

that is very strange now :(
so you tested the ports with or without injectors?

may be it is a problem of the igniton? you have a scope to test?

at the beginning you told something about cyl. 12, now cyl. 7?

I think the No.12 might have been a bit of a red herring! Ive only tested without injectors at present, as I didn't want to strip the manifolds quite yet, in fact I think I'd rather just go and but 6 more, but maybe I have a dodgy injector?? I have known new ones to fail.

and here's another one to add to the mix....going back before my tests I did make a slight adjustment on the throttle linkage as I felt the rest position was travelling slightly further back than the click you hear from the throttle body switch. After I did this it ran lovely for an hour or so. But then when I took her out the next day, the symptoms slowly reappeared until at the end of the day, it was unbearable.

What were you thinking with regards ignition?

Not to confuse diagnostic progress, but if it helps my 91 TR intermittently missed on cylinder 8. I could verify which cylinder was the issue with an ignition strobe light. The spark was cutting in and out at random. New plug and extender, caps and rotors did not cure it. Ignition wire resistance also checked out perfectly.

I had changed the crank and phase sensors next to the flywheel. Seems the car did not like one of the new parts (I forget which sensor) and could not get the necessary signal in order to fire cylinder 8 all the time. As soon as I put the original sensor back in, the issue was cured. FWIW, the new sensor passed the necessary bench test too. Seems that a TR can be finicky.

Did you verify that cylinder 12 is getting constant, reliable spark with a timing gun? If you have the WSM, perhaps check the crank and phase sensors.

    Thanks - I don't have a WSM unfortunately!

I'll check that No12 firing as maybe that's that little gremlin I can hear on idle.

    Hi Graham,
I am a bit confused with the time frame that this thread has been going for... since 2014 to present?
I must have missed it when I embarked on the same adventure in 2015.. not for the faint hearted and I found I was totally bamboozled by the results i was getting as well.
My car was running extremely rich before teardown for a major which expanded into other areas as I went. When I came to address the distributors it was all stops out precision measurement on dismantling and documenting everything. I set up a test rig with the dizzi and hoses to injectors into burette tubes using all the components that were on the car, after a month and a half I found myself chasing my tail on adjustment post test and retest. I had fitted the CIS kits which are very good quality, however I had to admit to myself I was not conversant enough with the KE pressure differentiation (upper /lower chamber) I finally bit the bullet and sent them to the only specialist in Australia, all done in 3 days $1,000. I have always been a DIY with my own cars and background but I was well and truly out of my depth with the KE system, very specialized.
I wish you well, sorry I cannot be of more assistance.

Hi Pete - 2014 was my join date!

When you set up your rig, can you remember what results you were getting? Mine are all constant and even, only around 1ml difference between ports.

Nice you have a 3 day service in Aus, ours is on 6-8 weeks!

    Hi Graham,
I used an Apple Platinum laptop for data input on Excel during that time (inherited); I may be challenged in a lot of areas, the least of which would be fruit & veges! However, this piece of Jobs refuses to allow me access to any file which would prevaricate an enlightenment to your current dilemma!!
