Good day all, Just another data point...Chassis 49315 (1984 BBi) sold today on BaT for $280K USD https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1984-ferrari-512-bbi-14/ Cheers, Sam
Thanks— was not sure how high I had to go— I really wanted the car and was prepared to go into the 300s if need be.
You did well. You were bidding with the right attitude. The cruel reality is that if you want to buy a bbi, you need to pay good money for it. There are no bargains on those cars anymore. Again. Congratulations
Thanks so much. Really happy to have it. The fact it was CA approved meant a lot to me. Looking forward to driving it. I need to do various things, mainly minor, to get it sorted the way I want. Based on the PPI, the somewhat major thing is all the bad bushings— that will set me back 8-10K but it needs to be done. I have a mid engine 6 and 8- glad to have the 12 to round it out. My favorite part about the car— the clamshells— totally race and totally cool!
The 77’ 512BB that just listed on BaT should go for a big number— already at $250K with 10 days to go
Both of those links are to UK cars. I have a 512BB which was registered in the UK in November 1980 and it has a BBi-style valance. From 1 April 1980 (no joke) all UK cars had to have a rear fog light fitted which may explain it. I have a history folder back to 1983 and there is no evidence of a replacement valance being fitted - but of course, this does not prove that it has not been replaced. Car magazine's famous February 1981 BB cover shows no rear fog lights (either single or as part of valance) but it was a V registration BB so may have been registered before 1 April 80.
congrats! so glad you got this car - needle in a haystack frankly with that cali cert. and you get a good price imo. hope it all checks out.
Thanks! Just trying to get it single car shipped. I think all the car movers in the county are in Monterey
Why not fly up to Monterey and drive it home- an epic first drive. What's 450 miles on a car. At 280K is it not even trustworthy to drive? Drive down the coast-what a great trip.
Do the drive yourself. Take one day off, and do it with your son, or father, or best buddy. It will be a memory for life Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat

This thread title says it all. This boxer checks ALL the boxes and still sold less than I would have imagined. A carbureted 12 cylinder in a car that's just sex on wheels, and it still sold less than any current 2006 Ford GT or Dino. This car made all the RED boxers look mundane.
What do you know, a very good friend is the new owner of this 512 BB. He received it a few days ago, and I had the privilege of joining him on a 2 hour drive today on some great nearby twisty back roads. This has to be among the very best BBs in the US, and maybe the world. Other than a very brief ride in one some 25 years ago, this was my first time spending any real time in a Boxer, let alone driving one. It is every bit as spectacular in every way as you'd imagine. And the sound, good God. Pure sex on wheels, indeed. Wow! He is one lucky SOB. I'm in love.
