Thanks for your input Michael. I am curious how you did it without a lift. I would probably take it to an exhaust shop as I am not experienced doing this type of work myself.
I am used to my stage 2 exhaust sound on my Lotus Elise so the 456M sound is just too muted for me.

In person might still be to quiet for you as it was for me and my 575. Certainly better than the Buick sounding stock. You can switch the vaccuum hoses around so the cans are open all the time. That also makes an improvement. However still too tame for me and I am going to replace the cans with straight pipes. WHAT? 9 deg F out this sunny morning and no enthusiasm for working on the car even though its kept at 50F. GTS Bruce

    ...fantastic.

Bruce: The 456GT does not have exhaust "can" valves.

360- Affirmative, no bypass valves on the 456/456M. One of the reasons they added a vacuum accumulator to the Maranellos. The 456 does not even use vacuum for brake boost. 456 brakes use hydraulic boost.

installed Bradon pipes today in my garage.

    Sound is perfect for me.

More bark and growl but less so than Tubi. Stock mufflers in 456.

    No drown at cruising speeds.

Wife couldnt tell the difference at cruise; 65 to 80mph

No problems talking at normal voices in the cabin, even talking with kids in the back were the same at cruise and around town driving.

Mat it around town and then it growls

idle rpm more aggressive but less than tubi.

Kids in the back seats continued playing on ipad with no comments re noise.

The sound suits the 456 character

    ------------

couple of tips for you Do it Yourselfers

    * use jack stands goes without saying
    * nut fasteners that collar the resonator to the front and rear pipes requires a deeper socket
    * WD40 the fasteners before untightning makes fastener removal a breeze
    * the real tip....
** after loosening the resonator pipe collars and the other nut fasteners next to the resonator collar fasteners.... wiggle everything apart as much as you can.
** remove the aeropanel under the car as you face looking up at the trunk
** remove the 2 j hook nut fasteners per muffler. these j hooks suspend the muffler to the chasis
** proceed to wiggle the exhaust pipe aft the resonator toward the rear of the car. Note- you do not need to separate the muffler from the exhaust pipe. i spent 25 minutes doing this and ultimately this didnt provide enough clearance in the aggregate. I initially thought i needed to separate the muffler from the pipe to gain sufficient wiggle room clearance when removing resonator. Would have saved me 30 minutes of nonsense.
** the other exhaust pipe i didnt remove pipe from muffler
** had i known about not taking apart muffler from pipe, i could have completed this project under an hour.

    ---------------

pipes were nicely machined without flashes

the internal reaming to expand pipe to accept catalytic output pipe was very nicely done; nice close tolerance yet sufficient wiggle room to insert. that was the higlhight seeing that tight fit

i would buy these again if the situation required.

    not affiliated with Bradon

On later Ms there is a vacuum brake booster, as I discovered yesterday, peeking inside the engine compartment of a 2001 A.

Hi, I just picked up a 95' 456GT. Do you still have straight pipe resonator replacements in stock. The car already had Tubi installed. I would be interested to replace the center resonator with your straight pipes. Do you still have the promotional pricing on them and do you ship to Canada ? Thanks

I have a 456 with tubi mufflers and the Brandan pipes. Love the sound, but it is loud.

Have, beg or borrow hoist time for this job. On jacks? what you can do and what you should do are two different things.

Put a set on my 02 456M it took about two Hrs. total time on jack stands, jack stands or lift makes little differance, easy job, little effort. The sound is a good improvement for the 456, not loud, but now you know you are in a Ferrari.

I know this post is old, but any chance a set of these are floating around still or can be made?

    Maurizio,

Contact Dan at Bradan and see if he has any left. Maybe he made another run since his last post in this thread.

Mine were made up for me over ten years ago by a technician who fabricates exhaust systems, prior to Bradan making them available. He used 321 Stainless Steel for the pipes.

They can be easily fabricated by a good muffler shop. Ask where you have your car serviced for a recommendation.

    Maurizio,
About 4 months ago, I called Bradan and asked if they had any left over stock. They said no. Then 3 days later, they got back in touch and set they had found a set on the shelves. The gents at least bothered to go look and that was really kind of them. Sold them to me at a discount to what their original price had been and I have just installed them as I bring my car out of her winter nap here in New Hampshire. I don't have any highway time with the pipes yet, but the idle has a lovely low burble to it.

If I were you, I'd call them and ask them to check the shelves one more time, pretty please. It is worth it!!

Or go the route that Barry (308 GTB) recommends, they really are just a straight pipe that is flared. A good custom exhaust shop really should be able to do this out of hand.

Thanks for sharing I will give them a call and try my luck. That is something I for sure want to try and have done as the stock tone is a bit non existent.

Fabio also sells an H pipe, which is straight pipes with two small balance cross tubes to eliminate any resonance.
