Glad it fired. Best not to make it more trouble than it already is. Change the hose and you're set. No need for st/st although it is a neat idea.

It seems not to be a hose it's the ally pipes ?? They are busy taking them out .

An actual pipe has a crack in it? Well, I suppose it's not uncommon. Two of my pipes have welds on them probably from the same thing. Welding the crack is probably the easiest way to go. The welds on my pipes have never gone bad.

That's a very sanitary looking engine bay. Now for a stupid question: what's the textured stuff I've seen sprayed all over the engine bays and chassis on these and many other European cars? My initial guess is some kind of rust proofing, but it looks like it'd do more harm than good..

Why use stainless, other than that it would probably be available more easily?
Also, be very careful with the routing of those braided hoses: they'll 'saw' through anything they touch. Personally, I don't like them much; the braiding has advantages, but it also masks where possible leaks originate from, and prohibit visual inspection of the hose. YMMV.
Hope to see you with the car in Simon's Town soon!

Dave, finally you drove the car? Sweet!

Now go put some miles on it, get everything adjusted properly and enjoy. Ou Kaapse Weg will never be the same:)

I'm sure that after the long period of inop, there will be plenty more chores, but is she behaving?

    2 tips:

    1)
    Get a good fire extinguisher
    2)
Check the dates on your tyres, replace as needed.

I asked this on the 'other' forum as well. Curious what your leakdown and cranking compression is now as well as the bore size

    Hi John
Bore size was 82mm . Leakdown and cracking pressure haven't checked . Once the motors got at least a 1000km on it and your jets have arrived . I'll take the deck lid off and spend a day on the dyno fiddling . Luckly I have unlimited access to a rolling road . I'm impressed how much bottom end the motor has . Things start to really happen at about 4500rpm , but the low speed tractablity is great . So far very happy

I love threads like this where there is a happy ending. I can't imagine the smile on your face! Keep us up on what's what.

For comparison, I have (at 1000ft elevation) about 175lbs cranking pressure with the intake valve closing at a late-ish 56 degrees BTDC as opposed to stock US timing with early cams which is 48, and Euro which is 50.
