are they all 2023 cars being left out?
Based on SavageGeese in particular, the eRay seems to be the greatest all around Corvette every built. It is very impressive.
I hate to be a conspiracy theorist but it seems to me GM is pushing people to get Erays over the Z06, probably because its better for their average fleet fuel mile economy and probably as they see it as more of the future of the brand. So Z06's get delayed while they try to get people to switch.
I am very impressed with what I have seen and heard so far regarding the eRay. When they compared it to an NSx, which I feel is a very good car, that really caught my attention.
I hate how I behave. Initially, I said emphatically, “No way I want a hybrid vette, screw that!” Now I’m thinking, “Wow, really impressive, maybe the sweet spot vette. Faster and more dynamic than SR but a little more forgiving than the Z06.” So, of course I’m not on any lists which no doubt are hundreds deep.
LOL, The same thing happened to me! Especially after watching the Savage Geese video… I sat there and was like.. “huh, can’t believe I’m actually considering this compared to a Z06 after watching this”
Same…Savagegeese video(those guys are great) really got me thinking. (btw..Leno needs to hang it up.)
The original start of production for the eRay was supposed to be 10/23 (next week), now it's 12/4. So if GM is truly trying to move people to eRay, they've got a weird way of doing it. 5,000 Z06's a year doesn't put a dent in GM's corporate average fuel economy.
I think its not the quantity of vehicles that matter to the fuel economy goals. Its the fleet average. So if they make one vehicle that gets 1 MPG, that counts against the other passenger (non- truck/ suv) vehicles in their fleet. I know, its silly but its how the government calculates fleet average. I believe Tadge mentioned this when he was going over the fuel mileage goals of the C8 which included V4 mode.
It's the entire fleet of ALL vehicles sold for the year. Which is my point. Based on the total number of cars GM sells in a year, 5,000 Z06's don't move the corporate average by much. If the HiPo Corvettes were a concern in regards to the GM corporate average, then GM wouldn't make a ZR1 (which they clearly are going to do) as that car will make a Z06 look like a Prius, fuel mileage wise.
Out of curiosity I went to take a look at the C8 Stingray yesterday. I drove a used 2021 convertible 3LT car that left me VERY impressed - the first time I’ve been impressed by a Corvette. What impressed me? Honestly, the build quality and the interior materials - in prior Corvette generations, these we absolute non-starters for me. The rest of the car was great - power was ok, especially for the price, transmission was great. To me, looks aren’t really there with an abundance of lines and shapes that seem a bit over styled. The car I drove was white with black stripes, which seemed to hide some of the over styled features. This makes me very curious about the Z06, as I’ve been thinking about a dedicated track car - this would fit the bill nicely, especially having a warranty (although not sure how GM deals with cars that have been on track - any experience here?). I was very surprised when they offered me one of the two Z06s they have on order (arriving within the next 1-2 mos, crazy $50K ADM) that are unspoken for. Timing isn’t perfect, and the specs aren’t exactly what I’d want, so will pass. I think I need to do some reading of this thread to see what your guys’ ownership experience has been!
GM is great on warranty for tracked cars…as long as they are NOT modified and in the case of the Stingray, the car MUST have the Z51 package. GM will not warranty a tracked non Z51 Stingray and they say that multiple times in the manual. Also, the owners manual has track prep requirments to use and it must be followed to keep the warranty in force.
^^^ It's all in the manual. Track preps AND maintenance needs when the car is tracked (oil changes/brake fluid changes/etc...) 2024 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ➜ Owner's Manual in PDF! (chevymanuals.org)
Very cool that Chevy actually specifies configuration changes recommended for track driving. I don’t know of any other manufacturers of new cars that do that.
GM wants people to track these cars. My 2017 SS (the Holden 4 door, not Camaro) has an entire track prep/maintenance section in the manual, just like my Corvette does. Just in case you want to take your wife, child, and dog for some hot laps at VIR
This seems to be a bit surprising!
