It looks like they are using the Magnaflow cores, which I've heard good things about. I also like the price and the fact they aren't polished - polished cats always make the smog tech go "Hmmmm..." and look a little closer on the visual. They claim they have a CARB EO number stamped on them, so there shouldn't be a problem getting smogged.

Cool! I am waiting to hear back from the shop on the condition of my current cats before I order them. I have a feeling the drivers side one may be shot.

Has anyone had any luck sourcing these? I'm looking for a pair of California approved cats for a 1996 F355 spyder. Note that any cat replacement for a CA licensed car must have a dedicated Calif. Air Resources Board (CARB) approval number stamped onto it, as a 49 state cat will not pass the visual inspection. It's also illegal on top of it.

Those should be legal for OBD1 355s in california.

    Edit: also all 49 states for OBD1 and OBD2 355s ........ :)

I will have a car(96 355) in the shop next week or two that has these cats on it.

Visually not very pretty..lol......appears to be low quality tubing and welds, and don't have a clue as to the core construction.

Customer purchased and had them installed at FOA dealership......as far as I know it did pass GA emissions but on the trip home the car thru a CEL which seems to indicate an O2 sensor problem,

After I get into this car I will post findings only if this DEC converter is sub-par or has contributed to a problem.

I just got off the phone with DEC's application's engineer (818-994-1908), and, quoting, " ... there is nothing legally available for a 1996 and later CA State F355." Same answer from Magna-Flow (800-824-8664).
Interestingly, other than the CARB number plate on the cat to show approval, there is nothing physically different between a CA and a 49 state cat! But the excessive time and money needed to certify an individual cat for a specific car with the State is prohibitive, so no aftermarket manufacturer does it. You can thank our socialist bureaucrats in Sacramento for this fix. Used cats are illegal to sell, I'm told.
Finally, retail prices for both left and right cats from the F dealer exceed $7700, supporting parts, labor, and taxes not included.

Maybe Dave will speak up but I have hyperflow but I heard they are no longer made but others like Dave I think had a different very similar cat that worked.

Larani parts are from England, how do you check if they are CARB compliant parts? Same for DEC, I read a few posts saying they are not CA legal. It is not simple...

I know of nothing but OEM thats CARB legal in California. YOu may be able to call a referee and get a pass
Or recore the cats so they look like OEM
Or what most do is just install aftermarket cats and hope the smog guys have no idea or just dont care as long as it passes the sniffer as most do

    :)
