Ducati's current riders now have a combined total of 2 motogp wins in their entire careers. They are decent riders (Iannone is a bit of a hot head), but neither rider is really of championship caliber. This will change next year when Ducati get their to put an "alien" (Lorenzo) on their vastly improved bike.

Evidence that a team does not have to spend mega $$$ on pilots if their vehicle is fast on the straights and strong on the brakes.

Definitely time for Ferrari to start thinking differently. Following a fascinating Moto GP race it is clear that you can still keep a faster vehicle behind you, providing you have the fastest engine, the best brakes, and are on the right tyres !

    BTW. It's a surprise Result at Brno ! :)

if Ducati just wants to win one or two races a year, they can do that with with a cheap rider... but if they want to win a championship, then they need to put an "alien" on their bike. .. and thats exactly what they are doing with JLow next season.

Damon Hill was a cheap driver, but still won the WDC mainly due to having a fast car.

I don't think it translates. With an F1 car how much is the car and how much is the driver these days? My opinion it is 80:20. There are several drivers in the field that would be winning races in the Mercedes.

For bikes, the rider has much more effect in the overall speed, more like 50:50 or 60:40. Look at the top 5 riders of the last decade (Stoner, Rossi, Pedrosa, Marquez, Lorenzo) and they win almost all the races, all but about 8 of the 180 or so ran in that time. If next year's Ducati is "good enough", Lorenzo will win races on it because he is arguably the best rider in the world.

I don't think F1 has good enough, as the driver isn't able to make up the difference (usually) in a deficient car.

big difference between F1 and motogp, F1 has several current drivers who are capable of winning a championship (given the right car)... currently in motogp there are only 3 riders capable of winning a championship (Rossi, JLow, and MM) and most of that is due to consistency.

I hear what you're saying - although let's not forget that Rossi the GOAT got nowhere on a slow Ducati. The Ducati is now quick on the straights, and good on the brakes. Put Carlos Sainz in the MB and he would win the F1 WDC

The Ducati that Rossi was riding was crap, for a number of reasons not worth getting into, but has always been a fast bike on the straights. Gigi's bike can corner, which is why an argument can be made that they have the best bike on the grid (with the assistance of the winglets). Lets not forget that the Ducati bikes have been competitive at every race this season, including last weekend at Brno.

As for carlos sainz winning the WDC in the mercedes, if that were true then mercedes would have signed him.

I think F1 has many drivers that could be champion in the Mercedes and none that can be that are not in the Mercedes. The current level of domination in F1 is way above any that have come before. Only 1 race in the last 3 years was won on pace by a non Mercedes car, Singapore last year after Mercedes got in trouble for running too low tire pressures.

MotoGP is much less predictable and far more entertaining now. The rider really does matter and one team is not miles ahead of the rest. If they had a better TV package, I think a lot more people could see how much more racing actually takes place in comparison to F1.

There are only 2 seats available at MB, and Rosberg / Hamilton are currently flavour of the month.

Either Sainz, Verstappen or Ricciardo could win the WDC in a MB.

Probably that most of the driver on the grid would go faster on a MB than on their accrual mount.
Maybe 8 or 9 of them could even win a GP after some familiarisation with the car.
I think that only 4 or 5 would win a WDC with it.

It takes more than speed to become WDC; you need to give feedback to your engineers, develop the car with very narrow parameters, have some racecraft, be consistent, and have some personal discipline + motivation. You need to carry your team with you and fend your team mate !!!

Vettel, Ricciardo, Alonso, Verstappen, Raikkonen would surely be contenders if they were driving for MB. But they would be against Hamilton or Rosberg in the team, don't forget!

This is true. Although as a teammate Hamilton is no Senna, and Rosberg is no Prost
