^^ Excellent post there! Thanks much
One should attend an NHRA event to really see and appreceiate what happens during a drag race. You would be amazed at the technology it takes to make a Top Fuel Dragster go a 1/4 mile under 5sec at over 300mph!Even the Sportsman class are a blast to watch.
check around your area for a track that has a "run what ya brung" night and go race. they have what's called bracket racing and anything can be competitive. after one night you'll find out. sure it's not road racing but it still brings up the red. on the way home you'll be thinking what you can change to run better next week. racing is racing the best fun is in the car. it can be done on a budget. winning on a budget is another thing. still, go fast is fun.
Isn't the start of every F1 race a drag race? Then it gets more interesting from there. Not to knock dragsters, but there is something more appealing (and natural if you will) to road racing and in particular when you are required to turn both left and right and apply brakes at certain appropriate times, reaccelerate, stop for fuel, change tires, etc. You would think that a more complex circuit (than a straight line) would perhaps require more complex skills. However, I don't doubt that many drag racers could become (and likely are) excellent racers in most any venue.
