It's a 500 F2 converted to a 625, chassis 0482, shown when owned by Ed Davies (who is pictured in the car).

Thanks. Wow, you guys do pay attention to detail. What is an "F2"? What did this car race in? Same races as F1s?

    Formula 2.

A competition level different than F1 and introduced in late 40s. Later became Formula Junior and then F 3000 in 1985.

Early engine rules were 2L for normally aspirated, 0.5L for supercharged. I don't think there were any limits on type of fuel, but could be wrong.

The Ferrari 500 F2 followed the normal designation at that time, i.e. it's a 2 liter 4. 170 hp, car weighed 560 kg (~1300 lbs). Alberto Acari won the F2 Championship in 1952 and 1953. The 500 F2 is a very important car in Ferrari racing history.

The chassis was the same as the 625 F1, hence, the similarity. In fact, the F2 chassis was the first to race. An easy conversion to F1, when the new 2.5L rules were introduced in 1954. Same chassis, just dropped the bigger engine in.

Ferrari / Dino competed in F2 for the entire run of F2, I believe. Both with factory cars and with private entries.

In 1952 and '53 Formula Two (rather than the poorly supported Formula One) counted for the World Championship, giving Ascari the title for those years.

I believe Ed Davies sold the car in the mid-1990s. Last saw him with it at the Monterey Historics in 1994.

I can't find any evidence that a former works 500 or 625 car was renumbered 0482 when sold to a privateer. Nowadays the car belonging to Alexander Boswell is stamped 0482 (Photograph by Andreas Birner on the barchetta.cc website)

I am mainly interested in the races in Argentina (Owned by José Florian Gonzalez or Oscar Gonzalez)as both owned an ex Chevy powered F.1 Ferrari at the same time)

No chassis number was quoted for the Oscar Gonzalez's car.

Thanks Kevln, the American period is dealt with by barchetta cc. The date of purchase by Robert Sutherland and the subsequent sale to David Livingston is not mentioned.

Not an exact date of purchase or sale, but Sutherland owned the car in 1975 (listed in the FOC roster '75, '76, '77, '78, and '79) and at least until 1981 (see Cavallino issue #13).

    Gents,

Does one of us know if this book gives serious information on the various Chevy powered Ferraris formula cars (José Florian Gonzalez, Oscar Gonzalez (Uruguayan),and other...)

I don't know if Christian Bertchi is on this forum.

    Thanks in advance.

    Willy
