    I’m in deep looking for a 308 and have been mostly looking for a QV. But owners with a carbureted car- is it a nightmare to do the smog? I assume buying a car that’s already registered in CA is a must-do.

    I just bought mine a couple months ago, 78 GTS, and part of the deal with the seller was for them to get the smog parts and then get it smogged, because I didn't want to have to deal with it myself... which they are doing as we speak while I'm out of town for work. I'll let you know when it's done.

    Can be a nightmare. After great difficulty, had my Jalpa cleared by CA BAR. They set some smog requirements based on 1985 Buick and it passed initially. I could never get it to pass again.

    I have two US 85 QVs. Did it every two years here in SoCal. As long as you have the good working order original cat and well tuned car, mine passed every time. I must admit that I was a little nervous when I did it myself without using the mechanic to smog them in the past.

    My '85 QV and '87 328 both passed easily.

    1975 or before if you do not want to deal with smogging....
