Thank you. Here is a part list of the European cars from Pan Am 1954 with the chassis numbers and colors added. Does anyone know what the chassis number of the black number #2 Alfonso de Portago Scuderia Espana 750 Monza was?? Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think your right. I forgot it might be a rebody. http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0428M.735Sport.htm Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013
We will again have a special model theme at Ferrari Expo 2013 for Pan Am 1950-1954 cars. I am doing atleast 3 models including a full scratch built Ferrari 250 MM 1953 car #5 in 1/24th scale. Will also do several 1/43rd BBR/Project 43 Porsche 356's. Will start to post pictures soon. Until then here are a few vintage Pan Am photos: Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013-Same weekend as the 1/43rd show and Unique Events toy show! Can't find a real picture but here is the Heco model of it wich has some errors on the front decals: Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you, Tommy, although as we all know 1/43 models are notoriously unreliable. As you say, both Shell stickers and Marchal letters are wrong, the pilot's name seemed to be outlined in a yellowish colour and there should be the letters "FRANCIA" in white on the co-pilot seat cover (see minute 11:13 on this video: ) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGpTkek36PY]IV Carrera Panamericana (1953) - YouTube[/ame]
I found a good picture. Now if you would only make some decals in 1/24th for the car I will scratchbuild the rest. By the way, you were right the 1/43rd model was way off!! But their body shape looks better than the other ones I have seen. Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013 Image Unavailable, Please Login
INCREDIBLE! You're great, Tom! About the decals, I must ask the permision of the customer that ordered them in 1/32 scale, but if he agrees, you can count on them.
By the way to those who are interested, this Talbot T26 was driven by Louis Rosier in the 1953 Carrera Panamericana to 5th place. It was chassis number 110 055, the same chassis that won Lemans in 1950. The car was rebodied in 1953 with this Charles Deutsch aero body. A few more color pictures from Jesse Alexander. Also a link to his site with more Pan Am pictures. I do not have any connections to the people on the site and this is for information only. Note the white plate on the 1953 375 car #26 as per the 1953 rules. The restored car has yellow plates wich are wrong. Small cc prototype class cars like the Porsche had yellow plates in 1953. I understand they had this only in 1953 with 4 colors for the plates. Rear shot of the 1950 winning Old's 88 and a video+ more pictures. The Old's ran without hubcaps in the race but with whitewall tires most of the time. This is a restored car so it has a few errors. One more photo and a link to another Pan Am thread. Funny thing is I am doing a model of this car and did not know the light covers were red. I think this site is competition for ferrarichat thus the block. A photo of the models I am working on for Ferrari Expo 2013 with more photos to follow. The 1/24th 250MM is a full scratchbuild with Pattos Place decals. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013 Image Unavailable, Please Login
More Pan Am photos and a few 1/43rd's I built for Ferrari Expo 2013. By the way, the Gordini's Pan Am plate decal is the wrong color on the Provence Moulage kit. It should be white. See color photo on last page. Pan Am plate overview: The 1950 plates were white, 1951 were yellow, 1952 were red, 1954 were yellow. Only 1953 had four color plates depending on the category, category sport were white, category turismo international were red, category sport hasta were yellow and turismo especial were green. Information partly from apostolos1953, a very knowledgeable Greek Pan Am contributor. The Gordini was in the sport class with a 3 liter engine so the plates should be white as the color photo shows. Pretty good video I have seen before. Here it is on Vimeo....enjoy. 1954 La Carrera Panamericana on Vimeo Also a Alfa 1900 screen shot from the video. Notice the door numbers are reversed colors on several of the Alfa's in the video. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2013-Chicago March 23rd 2013 Image Unavailable, Please Login
For the 300SL spider question asked by Toni, I can only find these pictures of the 300SL spider before the race. They had a spare camera spider wich we are trying to find pictures of during the race. I have also seen pictures of a spare coupe with different cut gullwing doors on it with Kling getting out. I think the color photo is of that cars cockpit(from the other Ferrari website again, posted by the wonderul Carrera video's producer. Notice door is different). A few more pictures of the 300SL's. The spare coupe with Kling in Mexico and also the only shot I have seen of the spare camera 300SL spider. It looks like it has roundels and the logo/stripes on the front like the other cars. I would guess it was maybe with Mercedes Benz blue on the front fenders. I just stumbled on this... for anyone who wants to know, the Phil Hill / Luigi Chinettti Carrera Panamericana Mexico is on display right now in the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma WA. If you're anywhere near Tacoma or can get here and want to see one of the most famous Ferrari's in history, the car will be there through mid-May.
