As far as I know, metallised paints for cars were developped in the sixties, but I suppose it could be some kind of varnish applied on the bare metal?

They had them before then as several pre 1960's Ferrari's had metalic paint. In some color pictures it looks gold and in some pictures it looks almost copper. It was painted in Mexico after the owner bought the car and was not silver.

Tom, I had for years harbored the fantasy dream of doing the Mille Miglia retrospective in a B20 and 25 years ago almost had one that I might have been able to afford. Great, great automobiles. My actual dream was for a B24 Spyder, great & drop-dead gorgeous car, but practicality pointed me at the B20 since there is so often fair spots of rain during the MM.

    Hi all,
Please F1tommy correct yesterdays post since the collection is not mine (some of the displayed models are) and the link is of a group of very well informed Italian collector modelers who love the original 1950-54 Carrera Panamericana as much as i do.
    Best regards, Apostolos

Thank you, Monte43, but the second one corresponds to the Chrysler Saratoga that was the driver's first option before he turned to the Jaguar Mk VII. Some elements of the decoration remained on the Jaguar, though.

The model is beautifully made, nobody would say it's 1/43 scale. However, decoration is not flawless: Numbers are a little too thick and, in spite of what this picture looks like, I would bet the dark letters in the Guatemala and "Asociación Guatemalteca de Caminos" were blue, not black. Guatemala flag is blue-white-blue, which would make sense for the word in blue and white, not in black and white.

I have a remark about the different cars driven by Salvador López Chávez and wearing the Calzado Canadá livery: Most modellers have assumed the background color under the red shadowed white letters was green probably because the mexican flag is red-white-green. However, in all the advertisements of that firm, the background color was blue:

And so most likely was on the cars.

I'm searching for the "Auto Club Velocidad de Guadalajara A.C." logo. This is the club Salvador López belonged to and different variations of its logo were painted on his cars.
I've been searching in the web without result, what is more frustrating, there was a grille badge of this club for sale at E-Bay but it was sold in February and the photos are not there anymore.

That is by far the best photo I have seen of it. We could not figure out what it said when I did my decals.

As for the green or blue you might be right. The old color Kodachrome film does yellow with age(yellow and blue looks green).

This photo corresponds to the Porsche 356: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VX7Onff3zOE/TjL2AFfvouI/AAAAAAAAAwA/q104E9r9nf4/s1600/Porsche%2B356%2B2.JPG
On the 550 it was slightly different, the circle with the lettering was inside the flag instead of outside.
I asked the man that sold the grille badge on E-Bay if he had kept the photos he made for the auction, but he won't be available until 8th October. In the meanwhile, that's the description of the badge he made in the auction: "features a checkered flag and vintage open wheel indy style car design" which fits with the picture shown before.
