What, no 375 Ginther spider? :p
Hey guys, I have 3 pictures of 2 different Ferraris I took at Monterey Historics and Pebble Beach this year that are relevant to this thread. However, I am not subscribed and have run out of memory to add any more pictures. If someone wants to post them, let me know. I will be happy to forward them for you to add them to the thread. You can PM me. Alberto
Thanks Alberto. Here are the 3 photos for all to enjoy (plus a vintage one from my files). Guido Mancini was the driver of #26. This was the top finishing Ferrari from 1953 in 4th place behind a trio of Lancias.
The Carrera Panamericana Race was first run to celebrate the opening of the highway system linking Mexico's northern and Southern borders in 1950. The first year the cars ran north to south, from the U.S. border to Guatemala. In the following 4 years the Carrera was run south to north. The race was divided into 8 legs. In the S --> N format the 1st 4 stages from Tuxtla to Leon are winding mountain road and the 2nd half from Leon to Juarez is level highway. The exact length of the race varied from 2178 miles the first year to 1908 miles the last year, depending on the exact location of the check points. The basic route was: Tuxtla Gutierrez to Oaxaca - 329 Oaxaca to Puebla - 256 Puebla to Mexico City - 81 Mexico City to Leon - 267 Leon to Durango - 333 Durango to Parral - 251 Parral to Chihuahua - 186 Chihuahua to Ciudad Juarez - 230

Do you have any period Carrera pictures of cars OTHER than Ferraris? My friend Dr.Dave Scully would be interested in any photos of American cars and drivers that he doesn't have already, for his upcoming book...
speaking of La Panamericana have all of you guys seen this F430 video racing la Panamericana down in Mexico http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33098
Here are a few he may have seen plus some I know he has not. Please pass on my contact info. and ask Dr. Scully to get in touch with me.
Mr. Mason (Pink Floyd) had TWO jags built (replicas) to run the re-enactment. That video depicts their adventures.. One went of a cliff breaking the passenger's leg, IIRC, the other I noticed for sale within the past year or so......parts of these roads were fairly treacherous, and the accidents eventually caused it's cancellation.......
Im working in a book about Alfonso de Portago and the sight of the actual #45 plate he shared in his very first taste of motor racing as frightened passenger of his then recently acquired # 0286 spyder Vignale driven by L. Chinetti has prompted to complement that shot info with a period image of youthful Chinetti showing the plate just before the start of their short-lived 1953 run. Sadly, being a newcomer I need ato know how I can send it through. Pls advise. Tks.
Scroll down to the Manage attachements button below, Browse in your pictures...select photo.....WAIT a few seconds until it appears in the box...then post.......HTH
Being the author of a recent Pegaso sports car book, these genuine Carrera plates have fuelled my imagination once more and cant resist to join a couple of expresive images of smart Palacio-Fernández Touring-bodied barchetta before and after his spectacular flight during the early stages of last edition of the gruelling Mexican race.
Here are the photos to go with Manel's post above. Thanks for sharing and adding to this thread. You have some great images. Please tell us more about your book and how to buy a copy.
What new Pegaso book? I want it! I have the old Croma-Cross book, but some friends want it, and when and if one can find it, it is VERY expensive.
The book is published in Spanish by "Edicions Benzina" of Platja d'Aro, Spain. Can find more info in their Web site: www.edicionsbenzina.com
I know it's extremely difficult to guess, but could anyone identify the badges on Chinetti's car nose just in front of the Ferrari logo? http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/8979/sinttulo2dr.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/492/image0010706172604.jpg
