The Automobilia Carrera Panamerica book has most of the rare sportscar chassis numbers but only says Porsche 356S motore P400 49 Von Metternich. The 356 was not as rare a car, so it will be harder to trace. The white coupe sister car had the experimental gearbox, so that might be easier to trace.
This picture was taken in 1958, it might be the same car that ran the Panamericana and was sold after the race, which is what happened with many of the cars that went to the race. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Carretera Panamericana Chiapas on facebook says every entry had to put down the serial number of the car on the entry form. He says they are working on several books with the chassis numbers. I have nothing to do with those projects. I am hoping one of the better automotive authors will do a high quality book using some of the newly found Kodak slide photos in it. It really needs to be done by someone. We have a few pretty good books but nothing great yet. Pan Am 1950-1954 is one of the last automotive frontiers not fully researched and written about. It seems to be a popular race.
Better quality from 1953 Pan Americana. This Ferrari is hard to find good photos of during the PA. Anyone have anymore? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes it would have to be as #4 1953 was the Phil Hill/Richie Ginther 340 Mexico. Thank you Marcel. This car is hard to find good photos of at the 1954 race.

Found a cockpit photo of #0428M, the Monza hybrid after it was sanded down to remove the Panamericana writing. More photos of this car on page 15. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thought I would post this again. I have nothing to do with the company but this is one of the nicest Carrera Pan Americana print posters I have ever seen, and I have most of them. Very fine printing. I wish they would do a Ferrari Pan Americana poster of the same quality. FYI, Porsche never did win the Carrera, even if they do name half their cars after it Porsche 356 SL - Past - Carrera PanAmericana - 1953 | Collector's Edition - Automobilist Image Unavailable, Please Login
The LA Carrera finishes today. My friend Karlos destroyed his car yesterday https://www.instagram.com/p/CVQ46JSBD5-Gtk_Ba4fWffKFt5Q9MZ6cPszFq00/?utm_medium=copy_link Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
Finally finishing up a few projects. The is the 1954 Pan Am ROCK OLA team VW. I sell this sheet in 1/24th scale with 3 cars including this car and the class winning red VW and a Jaguar XK120 from 1952, printed by Cartograf. Pegaso Z102 being loaded in Spain to transport to Mexico for the Pan Am. Photo via Javier Rucabado. Image Unavailable, Please Login
By the way, the second VW in this photo is the ROCK OLA car. It shows the added Mobil Oil logo on the side. I wanted to do the Hotel El Mirador VW but could not find enough photos.
This shot is via Roberto Lopez Alcolea, the Pegaso facebook administrator and attributed to Roger Jorda, although I am not sure he took the photo. This looks almost like it came from the same roll of Kodachrome as the 250 Hotel Pado and Jaquar XK120 1954 Pan Am color photos posted on previous pages. One of the European book publishers owns those slides. Time to get them out and publish a book!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, I am building up a collection of Carrera Panamericana cars 1950-54. I have most of the Ferraris and am now concentrating on american cars. I need pictures of the Chevrolets from 1950, entry numbers 74, 127 and 131. If anyone has any of these I would be very grateful. Ian Duque (Lockshen)
You might already know about this site thread I posted several times. I would take care with the colors because DwayneD is not always right and takes guesses alot. For example he guessed on the VW Beetle car #269 from a color photo with surrounding refections making it look brown or black. All the other photos look like a very dark color or black, and he even made a brown background for the ROCK OLA letters?? Sometimes it's all a guess. Saw this very nice VW done by DwayneD. I think he did a good educated guess on this car. I hope more photos still show up from the Pan Am 1950-1954. We still need a great book about the race. I also hope the owner of many color Kodachrome Pan Am slides, Corsa Research releases them soon either for sale as prints or in a book. Color photos of both the 1952 Pan Am Porsche 356 pre A's. Thanks to Gerardo GT on facebook for the number #10 car photo wich I cleaned up. It looks like cream not white to me. Looks like they are working on the Synchromesh gearbox Porsche was testing on the #10 car, a design they sold to Ferrari among others. Scale Designs decals still has them both in 1/24th and 1/43rd, printed by Cartograf. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
