I wonder if this is a function of long-time editors no longer reviewing the articles, or authors failing to proofread their work? Who previously ensured accuracy? Unless the Barnes had the knowledge to personally review every article, it seems to me a change of ownership would not be the sole cause of the inaccuracies.

Sloppyness and non-existant quality control. It's that easy.
Plus general lack of knowledge about the subject, in this case: Ferrari automobiles.

Hahaha 275 used in a really silly French late sixties film Les Ponyettes or something like that. Not a B movie...more like a Z movie!

One of the producers borrowed the car early on one evening and damaged the body on one side so they painted it to go with the hippy theme of the story and to camouflage the damage, they only ever showed the good side of the car in the film.

Much later in the 80s there was an article in a French car magazine about a guy (and possibly written by him) from the Paris area restoring this same car at home.

He was an awkward type, very silent, a very bad communicator, what we call a taiseux.
He developed this absolute hatred for the Pozzi Ferrari France parts department counter guy, who seemed to be one of those very annoying contrarians, hilarious in a way like inspector Clouseau battling his Chinese butler:D.
He noticed the left and right side of the car varied significantly in measurements.

I think it was in Auto Retro magazine in the early 80s but not certain. It might have been in a fairly wild magazine called Chromes et flammes.

    Haha yes, very true:)

Last night I found the full movie online on the Russian OK.RU website which illegally stores tons of US and European classic movies.
I tried watching it but it is really, really awful and useless:eek::D.
You can see the car here and there but before it got damaged as both sides of it are in fact shown and intact, contrary to what the early 80s article stated, complete with that drug inspired livery.

I just wrote up a list this evening of all those I have between 1(reprint) and 246, will stop at 250.

I have about 170 so 80 of those 250 missing, a lot to discover, which is something nice to look forward to. Will prep list of missing ones and post in next few days.

Can anyone explain the volume x number x nomenclature of the early issues? Are there any gaps or doubles in issue numbers? It happens, like calendars with errors! Grazie.

Going thru issue 260 I found no fewer than 12 (twelve) incorrect chassis numbers and when reading the article about the mis-identified 275 GTS Spider it is just shocking to realize that the author does not even know that there was more than just one leather supplier in the mid-1960s. Not just Connolly, which is NOT the original leather for the 275 GTS featured. For 07513 it was Franzi instead. A quick look into factory documents would have sufficed. So much for accuracy or lack thereof.
Can this publication be taken seriously at all?

Thank you for your perspectives. After reading them, out of curiosity I compared the mastheads of #249 and #259 and finally realized there are material differences in editorial and contributing staff. There is clearly a new generation of people contributing articles, so someone has to ensure accuracy.

I realize you meant this as a rhetorical question, but I actually welcome some of the changes beginning in #250. In particular, the addition of enthusiasts writing columns about their experiences owning, driving and showing special Enzo era cars, since we rarely see them being driven by owners anymore. I also enjoy David Williams' work. But to me accurate reporting of Ferrari scholarship is the critical element of the value I derive from the magazine. Social media already contains plenty of owners impressions, pretty pictures and industry gossip, and its more timely than a print publication. When coupled with a doubling of the subscription cost, I doubt I will renew.
