Aggressively? I specifically said 'no offense', and 'I'm open to ideas'. But, IMO it's a ludicrous idea. Technically, I guess they could do something that when all 4 wheels go over the line ABS/TC gets 'enabled' somehow. I'm convinced we'd see more crashes as a result - 'the car took over and it caught me out' would be the likely refrain. Ian
Plus, I'm not sure that some sort of off-track automatic traction control/ABS would have mattered in this case. My road car has all of that stuff and if I hydroplane or hit black ice going into a corner, all bets are off. As soon as Bianchi hit the water, Issac Newton was in the driver's seat and he was a passenger all the way to the contact with the crane. I'm siding with those that say the FIA did everything right. It was a freak accident, and they happen sometimes in motorsports. All the drivers screaming on the radio to Race Control to stop the race (as Massa evidently was doing) certainly had the option to pull the plug and pit the car if they thought the going was too dangerous, a la Niki Lauda in 1976 at the same track. But they didn't. JP
Yep. The flaggers did exactly what they should, the tractor crew did exactly what they should. I think we may see a minimum light level rule introduced, and I have no problem with that. Beyond that, I think Charlie must now reinforce exactly what double yellow flags means. Dr H noted in a piece that in the drivers briefings they're all asking 'how much do I have to slow down in order to not get a penalty... 0.2, 0.5 in that sector?' This needs to be tightened up; you need to slow down so that you can ****ing stop, fast, on track, without hitting anyone that may be out there! Ian
IMO - Both you are wrong - As long as the run off areas are designed on a slop they should not retain water hence TC/ABS should help
I agree, except the race was at Fuji. why is everyone now an expert on what could be done to make this accident not happen. when are you guys going to say the cars need parachutes??
That idea is not ludicrous. Weird, but not ludicrous. (Remember when the Toro Rosso lost all four wheels?)
