Does anybody know if 1991 TRs had clearcoat ? The detail shop just told me mine does not. There isn't a history of a respray (other than front spoiler) that I know of and I believe I have complete records

My 1991 TR is the same -- (the places that haven't been painted recently ;)) are single-stage paint (no clearcoat).

When you use a compound, polish or a cleaner/wax, you will typically get color transfer to the pad. This indicates a single stage paint...

You will not get a color transfer if you use a true wax,ie: carnuba wax, sealants, etc. (Something that lacks cleaners/abrasives, etc..)

Only the metallic colors would have clearcoat.

    Per Jay's point, I should've included that mine is a non-metallic color.
