I am sitting up at 1am thrown off by the stupid clock change. Do we really need to keep changing them twice a year? Whats the reason? It sucks when it gets dark at 4:30pm in winter - I'd LOVE to at least have it be light when I leave work. Why bother? Its such a PITA, lets just keep them the same always, no?
Does anyone know why we change the clocks? When I was really young I was told it had something to do with farmers and giving them more daylight hours at certain times of the year. I never understood that. I always thought that the farmers could just work when the sun was out no matter what the clock said.
It's the damn farmers, not to mention school kids (more light = safety), and lastly energy savings. They are planning to extend the time where we get more light in the evenings now to save fuel.
this F***en pisse* me off, today woke up late because of this and now i wake up early because the daylight comes up at around 6am,stupid idea this!!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_savings Now who can tell me why railroads instituted time zones? --Dan
Prior to time zones, each municipality ran on its mean local time, which was basically set by local noon (when the sun reach its peak). The problem was that a single train could experience many local times as it proceeded on its journey. On top of that, the railroad companies were trying to be both efficient and safe, that meant that trains had to be scheduled and routed precisely, to a fraction of a minute. (Railroad watches were specified to be very precise). The more trains that could use the rails, the more traffic that could be moved. But an error, resulting in two trains sharing the same track, would be a disaster. With many local times, the opportunity for error was huge and a constant headache. By going to standard time zones, the railroads made rail transportation safer and rail operations more convenient.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds this kind of stuff fascinating. I'm starting to learn about cartography - hugely fascinating subject. --Dan
I agree. Around my parts as soon as we "fall back" it starts getting cold as hell. Then we "spring forward" and it starts getting nice and warm. This is a no brainer!!!!
Its the common man getting it stuck to him ONCE AGAIN by the Farmers! When will we put these hellraising farmers where they belong?
The thing I don't understand about that (re: farmers) is that changing the time on your clock doesn't change the amount of sunlight you have. The clock could say 352:251.25xb and the sun will still rise in the east and set in the west roughly 12 hours later. -R
The complait, supposedly, less time to get crops to market in the morning, less time to let the sun burn dew or frost off etc. I suppose if you load the truck up with wet crops more likely to spoil.
I ended up waking up an hour early because I mistakenly set my atomic clock an hour ahead (it was an hour behind last night?) and thinking that I had a meeting this morning I figured I might as well get in early. Nothing on the roster until tomorrow though........ ugh.
