1 hour 45 minutes into the race. The two Maseratis are 4th (Fow) and 7th(Risi Comp) in class. Watching the lap times of Risi Comp, I believe they are going for an average of about 2.01 for stretching out between pit stops and saving parts. They have moved up steadily from 16th in class to 7th. They qualified at 1.56 so we know they can kick it up a notch or two if need be. Risi Comp is well known for making their machinery last. It paid off for them last year when they took 2nd overall and in 1998 when they won their class at Lemans with the 333sp.

I think the problem is the air restrictors. The 360 GT is a faster car than the GT3's, but then they put heavey air restrictors on it. I think the GTC has more HP even with the restrictors because they located them at a different place.

Owning a Maser I'm not surprised at how they're doing. I'm getting old. The front of the pack Prototypes look like dog sh it to me. I much perfer sportscars. Do you think because of how slow the 360's are and how fast the Maser's are the prices of 360's will fall faster?

I don't think this race will have anything to do with the street prices, not enough exposure. The 360's are still faster than the Maseratis, but the Maseratis have been more consistent. One reason is the FoW and Risi teams are better and more experienced than some of the smaller 360 teams. JMB USA is a little of a hire a ride team.

Looks like something knocked the FoW Maserati back, but I don't know what. Risi is hanging in there and the #73 360 is doing well. Anyone else really impressed with how quick Tony Stewart got up to speed and has continued it for an entire stint. He's moved the car up to 1st place.

Do you know what happened to it? I didn't see. Many are crashing coming out the bus stop because of the standing water.

Looks like some interesting stuff has hapened since it's been off the air. Wonder about the Risi car, they must of been in the pits for 30-40 minutes, but they're running now and good laps in the rain. Best hope I guess is the #73 360 which is 8-10 laps back of the GT leaders, but running 2-3 seconds a lap faster.

    fingers crossed

The Bell Motorsports car driven by Terry Borcheller is co-driven by Forrest Barber who ran a 355 Challenge car out of FoDallas. Terry drove the Rand Racing/Risi Comp SRPII Nissan Lola to the class victory at Daytona in 2002 and set a record that will probably never be broken. He and Anthony Lazzaro set the pole in class and let the whole race in their class to finish 1st and never dropped into 2nd the whole race, even when pitting.

It looks like Risi/Comp had some kind of an electrical engine problem and lost about 50 laps. Man, what a tough break. But they are back up now and running. 14th class as of 12:45 am central.

It is amazing how many of these drivers have driven a Risi/Comp car before. Terry Borcheller (2002 SRPII National Champion in Rand Racing/Risi Comp Nissan Lola), Wayne Taylor (won class at 1998 24 heures de mans in 333sp), Didier Theys (333sp), Max Papis(333sp), Steve Earle( Multi time national champion Ferrari Challenge, FoHouston), Johnny Mowlem(360GT last year), Forrest Barber (355 Challenge, FoDallas)and I am sure a few more I cannot remember.

    51st(OUT) #11 GT JMB Racing USA / Ferrari 360GT.

I guess the theme of this year's race is reliability as more cars than usual are still in the race. That really hasn't played well to the Maseratis. Although both have had problems loosing 30-40 laps for unknown problems. Lap wise they've been competitive in the rain.

Hopefully the #73 360 holds off the Racers Group Porsche which is now on the same lap. Hopefully the two Maseratis run consistent through the last 6 hours and will move up just because of attrition.

    Go FIAT!

Full course yellow because of the deep standing water. I guess last night for some time they had full course yellow too.

Seriously what do you think of the prototypes vrs the sportcars? Don't you think a race where the cars looked like sportscars you could buy would be more valuable to mfg's? I mean does anyone care that a DP running a "Pontiac" may have won?

Well, I don't know - to paraphrase some comments in the late hours of this red-flagged muy rapido birdbath broadcast, there were 18 cars in qualifying (only 6 last year) - 11 combinations of manufacturers and approved prototype teams - all striving to win now, and on the flip side of the same token, win later. In the past, any team had a very short time to put a combo together, whereas the prototype division allows for greater strides to be made in the short and long haul, which translates into innovation and success on the track, and eventually - some components into manufacturer retail car design. In either case, I think it translates into less of the "look what we're stuck with this year" and expect to see more interest in road racing and therefore, more appetites whetted to appreciate the good, the bad and the ugly.

Looks like they'll be back out on the track after several hours torrential rain delay... likely to hit the road are:

    9th overall | 3rd in GT | #73 | 360
    29th overall | 11th in GT | #93 | 360
    30th overall | 12th in GT | #30 | Light
    33rd overall | 13th in GT | #33 | Light
    35th overall | 15th in GT | #94 | 360

I thought the whole point of the DP class was to keep manufacturer's out and reduce the costs.

No and Yes on each well-raised point - it would be a godsend to the whole kit and kaboodle to get Ferrari and Jaguar "officially" involved.
