The color is Rosso Dino. Bought by original owner AJI ('Jimmy') of College Hill in (apparently) 1971 from Luigi Chinetti in NYC.
Jimmy owned it until his passing in 2006 at which time it went to his son. I don't know if it's still in the family.
Back when you saw it, it lived with a blue 250 GTE, (2) pre-war Alfa 8C's and a couple other sports cars of lesser note. Alfas are long gone.
I'm told the GTE stayed in the family at that time- don't know about now.
Rosso Dino is not a common color. One sold earlier this year on BaT and the claim was made that 33 Daytonas were originally Rosso Dino. Good spot!

I think that Jimmy(son) still has it.

I think that Rosso Dino looks GREAT on a Daytona. A local here in O.C. Ca has one. So Beautiful! Also, my father had Daytona Spider 17051 with Rosso Dino.
