And my louvers are in nice shape, the anodize isn't worn off or anything, still nice and black.
What is available re replacement louvers?

Third from the rear long louver, 4th from the rear (first short louver being #1) RH short louver

They got some rotary tool caught between the front lower edge of the louver and the wire mesh, which chewed up the front edge and raised a couple sizable rough, bare aluminum areas on a couple places.

How about repair? Anybody get their louvers repaired and re anodized? I would assume all parts would have to be anodized so it matches?

    Thanks,
    Doug

I know this is not what you came to hear, but this is just one reason why no rotary tool will ever touch the surface of my car, at least under my ownership. By hand only.

I would assume that the detail shop will cover repair costs. Get the new replacement and have a qualified shop do the repair.

That is my hope. I assume they have insurance, as $3k for a replacement louver set is not inexpensive. They did return my call and left a voice mail, so i will call them back tomorrow.

Are "new' louvers even available, or is it just best used you can find?

It says just a few scuffs, so I didn't know if "NEW" meant a new listing, or unused with a few scuffs.

I would assume never on a car with some storage marks. Ask for pictures.

Looks pretty used to me from the detailed pics. Maybe it was never on a car, but there are several touch ups, and chips in the finish.

It is an option, but it would have to be refinished to get to the quality of mine, minus the damage the detailers did.

When using a rotary tool to apply wax or to buff it off, be very careful if there is little surface area in contact with the pad. I have always used a rotary applicator and buffer on my 328 body and all other vehicles of ours. Never a problem. Just be gentle on non flat surfaces.

I found a nicer (probably) set than the one linked above, at GT parts for $400. Brought it home yesterday
They had several sets of louvers available.

I think they were originally anodized not powder coated but I’m sure you can do either way.

I would say, IMO, if your anodizing is all worn thin, and blotchy, a good powder coater, using the appropriate sheen of black, could do a justifiable job of making the louvers look pretty good. Being as thin as they a re, i do mean GOOD powder coater, as you don't want them over sandblasted by the new trainee who usually does rusty boat trailer wheels..

99.9999% of the people who see the car, wouldn't know any different, and unless you are going for concour judging, it wouldn't detract from the car IMO. And I am pretty damn picky person, who detests flaws, or stuff that doesn't look right.
