I have a 94 vt and have a strange issue. Yesterday I reversed out of garage fine annd put into first gear fine then that was it. As soon ans I got up the block I couldn’t get into any gear. I push the clutch and it won’t release the plate so I can engage in gear.with engine off I put it in gear and pulls strongly so not a worn clutch. I adjusted the rod too thinking it’s maybe a worn clutch to no avail. Clutch master and slave cylinder both working. I see the fork moving. So I’m thinking maybe a worn pressure plate. Any ideas?

also I have heard that to do clutch you need to remove engine. Why is that? To me it seems like there’s more than enough room to pull out transmission from underneath. I have no problem removing engine just curious. Look at photos below. What am I missing that transmission cannot come out from underneath?

Thank you in advance for any help

Well, for one thing you cannot access all the bolts on the bell housing while installed in the car. And that frame bar under the clutch, and the fact that opening narrows towards the front, there is simply no way to remove it if you somehow managed to release all the bolts.

Question, what transmission fluid are you using? If not a GL4 oil, you might try flushing out whatever is in there and filling with a GL4 oil such as PennGrade or VP Racing, not synthetic, just straight GL4 (takes about 3.5L, so, get a gallon, you can order PennGrade from Summit Racing).

Thank you. It looks so easy like it would come out but when it gets a bit warmer looks like engine will have to come out. . I have changed out oil in transmission with redline gl4 type about a couple years ago. Car has been driving fine for the last 15 years. It has about 60k km on it.

Redline GL4 is a full synthetic (nothing in a Diablo is spec'd for synthetic, including the differential, GL5+limited slip additive, Lucas makes a non-synthetic 80w90 available at many autozone/advanced/etc auto parts stores) and there is quite a lot of grease/oily grime collecting on the passenger side of the transmission (right side looking from rear) and that's exactly where weeping from the front of the transmission would collect and along the right side of the engine sump cover. Also the clutch view ports are covered in grime as well, all indicative of gear oil weeping from the transmission.

I would suggest draining the transmission fluid and see how much remains and remember, it takes quite a lot to fill it.

btw, if you have not repacked the grease in your CV joints within the past 10 years, it is time, the boots are probably fine, but the grease will not be, guaranteed.
