What are the implications of nuisance posters? Whats the best and fairest way of moderating these people?

Guys please dont be shy of posting your views in here. This is a private forum and this topic really is an issue. Some lines need to be drawn in the sand and let things move on.

there is nothing more certain to drive people away than having genuine threads hijacked or quantites of non relevant or confrontational threads, IMO anybody who is guilty of this should not be here permanently, if you start giving out temp bans then these people wear them with pride, a bit like the Government have found with ASBOs!

If you keep the cr*p out then the improved environment will soon attract more genuine people to fill the void :)

Maybe just the one warning at first if that is ignored well then a ban is justified.

    Thanks for this example Adam.

Its very easy to go OT. To what degree should this be tolerated? How do we differentiate between light fun or hijackers - how do we draw the line?

This is difficult to get the right balance. I read stuff on many forums for their humour.

It gets difficult when a group of people know one another, as the banter to those who don't know the group can be taken entirely out of context.

I personally laugh at all the insults, however if they turn on me I will want said insulter banned :D

Not necessarily. What if an objection was raised and then the members decided on banning by poll?

Ban him. that is not very PC at all.

PS. Be careful you are gonna scare the kids, Adults, girls etc posting pictures of that nature. There is a topic on here about attracting people to post. I mean looking at that ugly fecker you just would not :D

PPS "Bell End" one of the nicest things anyone has ever called me :D

banning by poll is an excellent idea. For example, if someone made x amount for nuisance posts about the same thing, one of the mods posts a poll with links to the offending posts then asks the great unwashed to vote on the individual getting banned. The length of ban should be pre-determined according to previous "form". i.e A week, a month, three months and so on.

it certainly takes the onus off of the mods and the administrator and lets the people that use the forum decide.

And what would be considered a sufficient amount of votes?
How long would the poll be open?
Would the offender be banned pending a ban?

this is definately one of your better ideas. I know this is about Fchat, but I reckon CS really ought to think about this type of process in the future, it would make the mods lives so much easier. I think you would need to set only say a 24hr period for the poll though, and it would need to be in a very obvious place, a sticky on the opening UK page perhaps???

I reckon it needs to be a straightforward, if 3 people vote for and two against he goes, period. No pre ban ban either, the process would need to work quickly to be successful

At the end of the day, a ban is decided by ONE person at the moment, so any votes are an improvement on this IMO

All hyperthetical and open for debate if you all think it might work. Votes always show a percentage - so there would be a threshold before ban imposed.

poll could be open for three days?

Fair to say the forum users could decide on whether a permanant ban was necessary - peoples posts might become more 'considerate'?

Users COULD be banned from BOTH forums if we communicated bans?

nah, percentage wont work, have a straight forward most votes wins.

Three days is too long, 24-48 hrs max.

As I said, lengths of bans predetermined, otherwise you may get a campaign running behind the scenes to get someone removed??? All needs to be fair and balanced.

For example I had a one day ban for a comment I made last weekend. I would be interested to know how many people would have voted for me to be banned, I didnt think it was that bad, but then I have high bull sheite tolerance levels :D:D:D
