Almost done with new hill engineering pieces, new belt set, gaskets, plugs, and pressure tested perfectly so good to go! The car has the tubi headers to go with the new exhaust. Hoping this project is done for some summer driving at the end of the month! New AC Compressor installed for some summer cool down - old one was original and served it’s purpose. All cleaned up and ready to install the motor back! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ha still more work on my check list to go through with purging and replacing the hydraulic fluid for the top, then some minor interior bits (sticky plastics) to make it all perfection. At some point I would like to send off the struts to get rebuilt but the lead time from the one guy that does them was crazy like 8 weeks. Really wish Bilstein still rebuilt these.
Engine and the engine bay finally all clean to lock and eat quality! Hopefully back together here soon to enjoy some summer weekend drives! FYI this example has 51k miles don’t be afraid to drive and enjoy these machines while also being meticulous in maintenance! Fun times continue - looks like new tie rods, boots, and seals for a slight leak on the steering rack before ytaking the car out for fun.
Update - steering rack was rebuilt and in the process saw the hydraulics for the top needed a rebuild so sent that out to get rebuilt/refurbished so all that will be new. At this rate pretty sure everything has been rebuilt so the car will ride like 1999. Next on my list will be rebuilding the shocks just for good measure. A lot of cursing was involved getting it out but rebuild is straightforward and pretty simple - replaced all inner tie rods, seals, boots, etc. Next fun is the hydraulics all sent off for rebuild as that’s meant for the professional expert who rebuilds those daily. Link below has the guys using as they charge $3,500 to make everything new with better updated hydraulic lines. https://www.tophydraulics.com/ferrari-355-f355-spider/353-package-rebuild-and-upgrade-of-the-full-system-including-hoses-ships-filled-and-vented.html
Oh and finally got rid of the suspension light after getting two new red top sensors from a Fcar dealer friend. Those are absurdly overpriced for what they are and hard to find new these days so recommend loading up if Ferrari discontinues support of some hardware like they did on the HVAC ECU. I’m currently having a shop replace the chips in the HVAC ECU as that was throwing a signal after having the engine out service done. Got to love these old electronics - fortunately a Fcar member figured out how to do this replacing 6 chips for $50. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f355-hvac-ecu.526186/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah I spoke to him and thought about it just couldn’t stand opening the engine bay art to see that white ugly ring so I just said whatever and got new OEM. My OCD couldn’t deal with looking at those white rings.
Lol, yes that would make sense but a lot of shades of red to get that right and rather just get a new pair and play with the broken set later on when I have the time. From what I understand Ferrari actually takes these as deposits from some vendors so it appears they may refurbish them as well if they haven’t been messed hacked in half.
HVAC ECU Update - appears that Specialized ECU in Oakland, FL does indeed work on the HVAC ECU repairs along with the airbag modules that can randomly throw codes too. Will confirm success once they have time to sort and test it out on the car - praying to get rid of this obnoxious dash light.
Plenty of threads on them, here is one for example. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ecu-doctor.519003/
Had them redo my 993tt immobilizer and never realized they worked on Ferrari so thanks for the information as I’m more confident they will get it all fixed
