    Interesting seeing all the finger pointing at McLaren. The real take away from McLaren should be that when they stopped working as a cohesive team and allowed infighting to break out amongst senior management and owners, their performance suffered. Once stability, calm heads and unified team was restored, they started their long slow climb back to the front. And guess what? since Zak arrived and got the team pulling in the right direction they've been slowly steadily moving forward again. When Zak first came to McLaren, there were people on here looking at their then performance and saying the team was dead, he was hopeless and predicting it would be sold of folded within a year or two. He and the team somehow managed to ignore the FC brain trust and instead got on with the long slow job ahead of them. Years later it's paying results. That's what Ferrari should learn. Rebuilding isn't a 1, 2, 3 4, or even 5 year plan. One or two good years along the way do not make a recovery, you might get a good car, or your oposition may have issues, but if you are still ignoring the the other issues, a few good results don't help build the future. Play the long game, get some stability, support your people and don't play the blame game, sit back and reap the results years, not months, later. IT's hard to build something when you reshuffle the deck every five minutes.

    It seems to me he/they really missed some low hanging fruit. I'm not an expert, but fixing the most egregious errors in the pit lane/ wall should not have been that difficult. Even if you started working on pit stop times. Look how bad some were and probably that could have made a difference in a few races. They did do well in the last race. Get the little crap right, and you have more headspace for the big stuff.

    Well...it took them only 11 (= eleven) years between 1964 and 1975, then only 21 (= twenty-one) years between 1979 and 2000;
    Soooooooooooo: how long will it take, then, between 2007 and...?

    Troubles started for McLaren when Mercedes, already a 40% shareholder, tried to take over the de facto factory team.
    When that was resisted, Mercedes decided to desinvest, forcing McLaren to look for outside backers and a new engine supplier.
    The shareholders disagreed about potential Chinese investors proposed by the Chairman and CEO who was evicted as a result.
    The internal discord affected the racing side, and the new engine supplier struggled for years to get any result.
    It's he culmination of outside factors and internal strife that affected McLaren performance, not a single cause.

    Question for those that kept track of the McLaren information, did you ever hear of the ownership stake by the Abdulmosin family? For fact, they had a piece. Around 1991 I did a Gulfstream for them that was for McLaren/Ron Dennis.

    This deserves its own thread, but I don´t get why there are so many Zackbelievers around there. He´s kind of cool, and yes, the team improved, they couldn´t get worse anyway. But in the latest years they´ve gone from 3rd, then 4th behind a roughly patched Ferrari, then 5th, behind the worse funded, worse engined Alpine. So I´m not sure how long Zack will survive if things don´t change again.

    Team principal Andrea Seidl is more vulnerable for McLaren underperforming than the CEO Zak Brown, IMO.

    But I blame Zak Brown for diverting McLaren effort in areas that don't benefit the F1 team: Indycar, Formula E, etc ...

    He probably deserves some credit for McLaren's turnaround after several seasons of being one of the slowest cars on the grid. I personally like Zak Brown for the most part. The McLaren isn't all that bad, just Ricciardo was terrible the last 2 seasons. Lando got results.

    Surely the folks at Ferrari have to closing in and ready announce the new TP. Everyday without a leader hurts 2023. Or could this be the end? Maybe they will continue to screw up and fall back into the mid pack...until a private group buys them...only to do no better.

    Rumors of Ferrari having several key figures of management, that lead the team, rather than the traditional single team principal. Similar to Red Bull, and actually similar to what they did with Brawn / Todt.

    It may work. It may not. Works at RB. Brawn, Todt, and Luca worked as an effective team.

    It can work as long the responsabilities are clearly defined and people don't suffer interference in their role.

    At Ferrari, LDM was President and CEO, Todt the gestion sportive manager, and Brawn the technical officer.

    At Red Bull, Horner is team principal, Newey chief technical offcer, and Marko the coordinator of all RB racing activities.
