this photo was sent to me recently it's from an early '80's Ferrari get together in suburban Detroit note the 512M,GTO,250LM,250 SWB,275 GTB,Dino,Daytona,2 Boxers.....all driven on the street !! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What a fun picture! Notice they were all red! That was the height of Ferrari re-sale red. Everyone wanted their Ferrari in red. This is good evidence of that!
guy in back with grey shirt yellow pants is Chuck Jordan former Head of GM design and it looks like his house in Bloomfeild Hills. I was there in the early 90s to trade 1/43 scale car models with him . Gary Espada 8394 EtypeFHC 887465
John, Those were great days around here. Many, many significant Ferraris flowed through our area back in those days unbeknownst to most people.....
I don't believe Chuck ever had a silver Daytona.......but he did have a yellow one.. the one silver Daytona in the photo belonged to Keith Crane,owner/publisher of Automotive News Image Unavailable, Please Login
What is also noticeable is the complete lack of stickers on the cars. No sponsors. Nothing. Interesting, isn't it...
Dave Holls standing to Chuck's right. Not a Ferrari person but he did have a nice Packard Darrin. Remember that some of the founders of the FCA were from Detroit. One of the earliest traders in old Ferraris was Dick Merrit who was with Ford then later with GM in product planning. Warren Fitzgerald, co-author with Dick of the first Ferrari book, was a GM designer. Lots of Detroit connections to the Ferrari world. Henry Ford had the 212 barchetta and nearly bought the company. Harley Earl's son Jerry had a 250MM for a while. Bill Mitchell ordered a 410SA. Dick Teague went through "some" vintage Ferraris. Jeff
yes, dave lived around the corner from Henry he wasn't a Ferrari guy,but he was one of the most knowledgeable car people I ever met he had a '30's Cadillac as well.....had one of the coolest 4 car garages around!
My recollection was a silver Daytona with "PROVA" Michigan plates......thought that was his car too?? I believe his Boxer had a "SEFAC" Michigan plate, but not positive. Yes, I remember the R/T photo of Jordan's Daytona. Very cool pic!!
In fact, I remember there was a gentleman that owned a 500 Superfast that lived just off of Long Lake Road across from Kirk in the Hills, just west of Franklin Road, back in the late 1960s......
Sorry about the 'side ways' photo, but I thought that this was Jordan's Boxer. From the book, and credit to, "Ferrari - The Enduring Legend" Image Unavailable, Please Login
great photo...whats funny to me is that given the federalization rules the guys who showed up in the boxers probably got all the attention!
