I couldn't agree more. It was great to see Dick at Amelia Island.
The silver Boxer was Chuck Jordan's car that Dave Cummins bought from Chuck and put the "PROVA" plate on it.
Well, there is/was a silver Daytona w/blk interior with Michigan 'PROVA' plates.......I will scan the pic tomorrow. Thought that the was Jordan's. I saw it through the mid 1980's at Meadowbrook.
The car was Chuck Jordan's. He kept it in the GM Tech Center during the winter for storage. Some creative types decided to have some fun with the car during one winter making a "Superfly" iteration. I never heard who the participating creative types were but the picture was published b Road & Track back in the day. Jeff
Hey Ed: You seem to have a photo of every F-car that passed through your hands. Do you have any photos of your pool parties? Cheers Mark
He was out of the country on vacation, as I recall the description of the caper, so they had some time...IIRC.
Chuck Queener was the Associate Art Director of R&T at the time. Chuck was/is a serious Ferrari person and saw to it that the photo was published. jm2: anyone admit to being the foam core culprits? Had to be some that knew they were on the "Chrome Cobra's" good side. Jeff
Sorry for the delay, just got back from CA. IIRC,Paul Deeson & J. Palmer were the instigators. But I believe there were several additional 'culprits'. I'll ask when I get together with my Design pals.
This car is now owned by Bill Warner, the founder of the Amelia Island Concours. We ran those images in the FOC newsletter way back then. CQ
I have heard two stories 1.)he wanted to race a Ferrari. So his father, VP in charge of styling Harley Earl said "don't buy that, I'll have a special Corvette built for you." The other is that he owned and actually started racing the Ferrari before his father came up with the offer. What model Ferrari was it? Thanks
Dick Merritt has an interesting spin on Ford's attempted purchase of Ferrari. Enzo got a free audit by FoMoCo CPA's to help him set a value for the eventual chunk sold to Fiat. A miffed Henry sent Shelby and his Cobras to dominate Le Mans in retaliation.
Haven't been on the site for a year. But what a great thread to return to. The pictures, pulling great influential Detroit designers into what the Bertones, Giugiaros, and Pinninfarina's were doing at the time, is absolutely fantastic. The GM guys could have designed the same, but one group was designing for mass production and the other guys for a couple hundred cars. Thanks to all who have commented on this thread. Is was a great way to start a Saturday morning ............ with a history class !
I believe that you are referring to the Dino that GM Tech Center owned that later went to Kip. There was also the red 308GTB that was GM's that went briefly to Jerry Palmer. Jeff
