In production cars you see partnerships/sharing of technologies, but in sport at the level of F1? Can't fathom this being a possibility. Bernie did cover himself by saying "maybe."

So basically Bernie is saying F1 is RIGGED.

Way to go, dipshoot! If you want to destroy a sport tell people it's all fake.

Why does he come out with such a strange story?
Assuming it is wrong he could have also said "DaVinci was coming out of his grave to single handed design the Mercedes PU"...makes about as much sense.
Mercedes does want to win so they certainly would not help Ferrari to build an even engine and if they just want a closer championship they can always detune their own engine as much as needed to stay just in front

    Erm...right.

Merc spends time helping Ferrari become competitive but then takes away their lead designer, finds out what Ferrari are doing with their floor and lobby the FIA for it to be changed, find out how Ferrari use extra oil (more basic version than theirs), get that banned, and so on.

Yeah totally they help Ferrari, lol.

    Bernie also said this:
“At the key time, Ross Brawn was in the engine group deciding the rules and he knew exactly what was going on,” Ecclestone. “Not because he was a good engineer, but because he was with Ferrari.

“Then he went to Mercedes and took that information with him.”
I believe this. Mercedes had a leg-up on every other team from the get go and the absurd token system ensured that no one could narrow the gap.

    Marchionne slams Ecclestone hogwash

Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne has hit back at Bernie Ecclestone following the former F1 supremo's controversial comments of last week.

Marchionne said the newly 87-year-old Ecclestone's claim that Ferrari received help to be more competitive from the former F1 boss, the FIA and even Mercedes is "hogwash".

"I think it's called pure hogwash," said the Italian-Canadian.

Ecclestone had claimed Ferrari got help from several parties over the years to succeed, but Marchionne hit back: "I think Bernie has to thank Ferrari for giving him the chance to run formula one and, thanks to our assistance, become a billionaire.

"God bless him. He has done so much for this sport, but also Ferrari did so much for formula one," he added.

Marchionne's comments come as Ecclestone's accusations of Ferrari-Mercedes collusion deepen.

Forbes' F1 business journalist Christian Sylt has now published a 2016 statement from Ecclestone that quotes the diminutive Briton as saying: "Ferrari, with help from Mercedes, have caught up.

"Between them ... they control the championship. The only competition is between Mercedes and Ferrari," Ecclestone added.

"Who knows what agreement there was or is for now to help Ferrari."

Marchionne has also hit out at Chase Carey, who is Ecclestone's successor. The Ferrari president warns that Maranello will not automatically sign up for Liberty Media's post-2020 vision of formula one.

"If we do things well, I'm willing to talk about anything," he said.

"But if we start making formula one just a cheap business deal, I'm not interested," added Marchionne.

"One must be rational -- F1 is still part of Ferrari's history and I have every intention of protecting its involvement in the sport. But not at any cost or purely for commercial reasons.

"There is a noble aspect to formula one -- it's a sport unlike the others so it cannot be commercialised like everything else," Marchionne added.

Finally, the Ferrari chief referred to Sebastian Vettel losing the 2017 world championship and said heads at Maranello "are already in 2018".

"The important thing now is to have learned the maximum possible from what we did wrong this year," said Marchionne.

"Last night I spoke with (Mercedes CEO) Dieter Zetsche and despite being ruthless competitors on the track, we are friends. He acknowledged that we had bad luck this year and there would be different results if what happened in Asia didn't happen."

Actually I'd say that these latest seasons they've pissed Ferrari more often than helped them. And Liberty doesn't look very friendly either.

IMO The FIA are not interested in helping anyone out in today's environment
But they will actively work to break up domination. Merc's day are numbered :)

I am actually not so sure about that....Ferrari was bluffing too often telling the FIA that they would leave but they never did...Same can not be said about Mercedes and if even more works teams are leaving the F1 they might run into trouble. So I doubt that they will do anything in special that might make Mercedes turn away from F1...

It's never as simple as making an announcement that their ending anyone's domination.
They just change rules in a manner which shifts balance of power. Go back to Ferrari's
domination - Michelin tires knocked them out afterwhich Red Bull dominated then new
Engine rules knocked them out.Now we are going to simpler engine formula which should
end Merc domination. Both Red Bull and Ferrari have better chassis than Merc - just IMO

Maybe you don't read the post. The FIA helped red bull beat Ferrari and THEN and STILL are helping Merc BEAT FERRARI. The FIA hasn't helped Ferrari in any way in any recent year.
