The latest corvette is engine out to get at the oil pump and they go bad.
Oh and driving a gas car daily compared to an electric car takes 8 years for the gas car to catch up to the EV in Co2 footprint of the battery manufacture alone let alone the coal fired electricity.

What a wussie! That’s part of the enjoyment of owning these cars in being able to be involved, be apart of the mystic of the design and function of a Ferrari. I have done a dozen engine out services on my cars over the years and loved every minute of it and very rewarding to see the finished result (and you get look at engine while it is out). It will take me 50 to 60 hours to complete the job, probably longer than it needs to take but I like taking in all the design and engineering art work while it’s apart, so I will do a lot cleaning and polishing while I am in there. Ferraris are machines not appliances you should probably stick with a corvette or mustang etc.

Funny that a Vette guy doesn't know that a mid engine C8 Vette with a DCT (which still has clutches) needs a guess what....engine out.... to replace them.....Oh well, doesn't matter he's an EV guy now!! :)

To the OP you said you must have a convertible and manual. You have gone to a boring single gear, with a roof and an ugly as can be car. Your reasoning is ICE cars being banned in the future. The point you miss is that the sale of new ICE cars will be banned. Existing ICE cars will continue. Elon has promised the roadstar for years. Keep waiting.

Your battery car will win the traffic light drag against my V12 for about 3 or 4 runs after which you will suffer serious power loss. The V12 or a V8 for that matter will keep running hard all day with no loss of power and don't even try to keep up with me on the back roads. I will enjoy the sheer beauty of my Ferrari and that glorious V12 banshee howl as the revs rise. No battery car will ever give that thrill.

With almost 5,000lbs of of road-hugging weight, that lithe devil has agility most can only dream of. Carving through curves must be a unique pleasure not unfamiliar to racers of the Baja 1000.

Ferrari to a Model 3. Now that is what I call LOL

Don't care if it time travels. Has as much soul and curb appeal as a dump truck. (well, a dump truck might sound better actually).

I'm not a corvette fan, they just never did much for me. I respect the power you get for a really good price, but even the new mid-engine car, just looks too much like a GM committee project. however, the one I was in was impressive, just not for me.

as for engine out, yes, its painful. fact is Ferrari made cars that are affordable now ( to a degree ) to purchase, but the mtns. over 5+ years is hugely expensive... its a downer. if you buy a 430 or newer car - price of entry is painful, and usually, the mechanicals are not so bad cost-wise, but electronics are not great... so its a gamble. that means you are coming down to the label... Tesla, and Corvette may be better cars - made and easier to work on ( tesla? not sure so far... ) but there just is no story behind them. that is why you are buying into with a Ferrari - for good or bad, you are getting the history of the company... and all the quirks etc... compared to GM - Ferrari is a tiny producer, and you get the foibles of that small production... but you are also getting a very specific machine for a specific purpose... its fast, it looks great and its very fun to drive, and its rare. all that adds up to desirability.

Corvette - fast, fun to drive but not rare ( and now quite expensive ) & a bit cheap feeling inside.
Tesla- Very Fast, not that fun to drive other than in a straight line, cheap-feeling - thin plastic, a bit video game-like... and not rare at all - and infant technology, and longevity. clearly, Electric cars are the future... but just like ICE cars, the early ones will be very difficult to keep going as technology goes on.

if the OP was a troll...to each his own.

Back to the thread title "Engine out". Yes some specific Ferraris have engine out services, but not many. Again, the new Corvette needs "engine out" for some repairs/servicing. So thread is mute.

Na. The main dissimilarity are Corvette people are usually PIA wannabes that will look for every reason to put down something that through the choices they have made in life, they have no hope of obtaining. Ever notice that virtually every vette you see going down the road is driven by a guy that is alone. Aside from the use of cheap cologne, there is a reason they are alone.

I'm not sure about his analogy of vette owners, but if you watch the Vinwiki video about vette owners you will likely get a chuckle. "My Corvette's better because..." Let's face it though, ANY car owner who goes on and on about how great his or her car is compared to others is a bit annoying. To each their own.

You probably should have spent a little more time perusing the forum. Not only would you realize that many here own other sports cars besides Ferrari, but...

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/american-muscle-showroom-post-your-pics.219777/

This one made me chuckle. You will want to learn the difference between quick and fast when talking to people who know cars.

Was the whole point of this thread to try to boost Tesla sales or something?

Dan Neil wrote very eloquently about the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. Both being electric of course.

"The Porsche has something the Tesla doesn't the the power to make people look twice."

That pretty much sums up most car guys opinion of anything Tesla. I'm biased. I do't give a hoot about any of the Tesla vehicles as nice as they are, I want a Taycan with porsche handling.

Yes, back to the Engine-Out thread - during my 9 years with a 1998 355 F1 Berlinetta I went through 2 engine-out majors (including the clutch on the second one). Sure it was expensive but I viewed it as a valuable part of my Ferrari ownership experience, and learned a lot about the car as a result. I've moved on to an F430 so the engine out is no longer a maintenance requirement (chains instead of belts) but IMHO properly maintaining these wonderful cars is necessary to fully enjoy them. On the other hand, maybe I'm just crazy.

Willing to do my own wrenching. Engine out would be a fun winter project.

Low production cars have higer parts cost and that is fine. Just part of paying to play. What sucks is when the parts cost is high and the new part is crap. Hoping someone has engineered a better solution but sometimes you juat hope you can find an original.

I somehow don't think a gated F430 is within his financial reach. If it was, I doubt he would be so concerned about the price of a clutch that lasts a pretty long time.
