They had many. Remember when you see him driving a 4V and it has black A pillars, you're looking at an 83 model. Later he uses an 84 or 85 as indicated by the red A pillars. (you can't tell by looking at the outside whether it's an 84 or 85 - you have to look inside. There is one small difference between the two years)

I know. They also used the green QV and plus if you remember some of the older episodes there were 2 carb cars used not just one. I was commenting on the post that said they only used 3. I was just quickly dispelling that myth by mentioning that 83 QVs were used.

One of the earliest ones they used had a missing section of the flat-black "belt line" stripe on the driver's side rear quarter panel. If you're into the cars, it's such a distraction that you know immediately when they changed cars.

There was also one episode early on where they had two 308's parked next to each other. This was the Erin Gray "J. Digger Doyle" episode. I don't think it was trick photography because of how the cars appeared, but I could be wrong.

Actually no. I was hooked (badly I might add) when a 1977 yellow/black 308 GTB screamed past my house summer 1980. I followed it home on my mini bike. The rest is history. Magnum PI was just icing on the cake.

Yes, that is the episode. Also, Carol Burnett drove an 84 or 85 in one episode.

Those were carb 308s if I remember correctly in the "Digger" episode.

I saw the "other" carbed car back in 84 at a show. I took a stack of pictures of it. I have the chassis # at home. I'll post it tonight.

i noticed that same thing when i saw that missing black belt line....i always notice when they change cars...my 308 looks exactly like the ones used in the early seasons and i live in hawaii and i also have robin-2 as my license plate.....i know robin-1 was on the magnum ferrari but it was taken already...so i figured that robin-2 was just as good...:)

Nice! But you need to get rid of that Las Vegas license plate frame!

I used to watch Magnum JUST because of the car. That was back in my highschool days. My first love was the BB512. I bought a book about it at age 13. Thirty years later, I still have the book. Still working on getting an F-car. Give me a few years. :)

I remember it well Mr. Cosgrove!

The article about the kid who runs from the back to the front of the RV "Didja see it didjaseeitDIDJASEEIT!!"

The girl in the Pinto keeping up after PJ forgot about her! "follow me"

The start up ritual. "Now what did they say again?"

The asking the boss for time off for the trip. "C'n I come?"

"Julian's" (The boss) "Brook's Brother's" creased jeans and PJ making excuses not to let him drive and the part where he "relents" and Julian REDLINES it all the way through the gears!!

Yeah, I remember. I doubt I will EVER forget!!

    Den.
