I have one. It's saved me a million times. SUPER high range and very very few false alarms (less than any other detector, I think)

I've been using a $80 Uniden I bought like 6 years ago.Uniden's are one of the worst from the tests that I've seen.

How does the 8500 compare to the Valentine one?

I'm a V1 biggot. But, I'll say that the 8500 is close to the V1. Okay, let me correct that, it is actually slightly better. If I had to measure, it would be by a few milliseconds, maybe not even a half second better on the road. Personally, I prefer the directionals so I don't have to slow down for 20 miles until I know the cop is out of sight. The directions - very handy. But the 8500 is right there with the V1, if not, slightly faster at detecting.

I know this because of a few friends that own them instead of the V1 and going on hill country *ahem* spirited drives. I can see when they are braking. And also, have watched the radar on other cars in the middle of nowhere, side by side. It is close, er... slightly better, but it doesn't have the directionals.

I have an 8500. It works like magic.

You'll swear it sniffs out doughnuts and stainless steel thermoses after a week of use.
