Usually never a minor mechanical.........:)
Hi guys, I've been looking for an Espada for a few months now (I know, not long enough...) and it's been more difficult to find one that I previously thought. I've responded to those who have posted here or on the VLG Yahoo list a having a car for sale but none of those panned out. Have also been watching the usual outlets such as Ebay, Anamera and a few European sites. If it matters, I'm not a dealer or flipper but an ardent enthusiast who will be truly appreciative of being the next caretaker of one of these special cars.
This morning in Vevey. Very nice show indeed, there was also an early night blue Diablo and a Miura. After having driven only the Countach for a few weeks, it was good to take the Espada for a spin. It is strange to say that the Espada felt so different and so similar at the same time. So different, because it is refined, the noise is not so present and the ride is much smoother. However, the power delivery and the overall feeling of having a sports car is also present in a very similar way. Of course it doesn't corner the same way and it is absolutely not the point, but pushing the throttle gives a very similar smile! Image Unavailable, Please Login
The German LCCG had a meeting and two Espadas took part, Series I and III LCCG-Treffen in Böblingen 2014
Can somebody explain me with pictures the difference between a Espada S1- S2- S3 tool kit and tool roll, jack? except of the wheel mountings... Clearly you have other wheel tools on S3 cars.
I think this was discussed somewhat on here either in this thread or another one in the Lamborghini section. Try a search.
Hi guys, Is there a way of findinghistorical or factory configuration information for a given car. Information such as original color, date and location of delivery? Thanks.
Hi Olivier, thanks for your reply. I have no jewel of my own, yet... I am considering #'s 9118 and 8113, both advertised for sale in Germany and Holland, respectively. Do you know any of these cars?
9118 : Rosso/nero, sold to New York, Lamborghini Inc. the 27th March 1974 8113 : VIP model, Perlato grigio/Senape, sold to Lamborcar the 24th November 1970 do you have the link to the ad ?
#9118 => Lamborghini Espada 400 GT as Sports Car/Coupe in Heide/Holstein It was for sale at 83.000 for 6 months untill March 2014, then disappeared and now it is correctly listed. I spoke a lot with previous user/owner... it does'nt have the picthing perforation seats. #8113 => Lamborghini Espada with Knock off wheels and AC as Sports Car/Coupe in AP / Brummen question of taste, I don't like the retrimmed interior, which does'nt even have the picthing perforation seats... If you like another combination of colors, I know a silver/red S2 with 5bolts wheels and power assisted direction, PM me if you are interested
What a shame that they didn't retain the VIP interior. This looks reasonable well done but with the typical "now a days" changes such as contrasting piping and skipping the perforation. I'm going through that right now on my seats. The seat faces are now quite easy to have perforated but the back of the front seats is not so easy. If done by hand with that star shaped punch humans invariably mess the pattern up in more than a couple spots. The original on my Senape interior still has the original factory pencil grid on the leather and yes the factory goofed on location in several spots. Gary M. was offered and supplied the seat backs punched with round as well as star holes when he had the Italian specialist connected to the factory do his. I can now get the seatbacks done with a computer controlled punch that's totally precise but only for round holes and that or no holes at all is what I'm going to do. So far there are technical issues with precisely axially locating a star shaped punch and I've run out of patience. Has anyone seen an original car with round holes or no holes at all? Bob S.
Interesting on #9118 is the sunroof. Probably not a factory option but installed by the dealer on request of the first owner. #8113 was for sale in the Netherlands in 2002, at that time it was painted green, 90.000 km and the period ad says the car had power steering, if this is correct it must be an aftermarket installation.
#9118 was in switzerland quite some time in Hägendorf with Max Bobnar (former Lambo dealer). 2012: Mehne Automobiles, 22457 Hamburg, Deutschland, 69.500 EUR
Hi, Im the owner of the Lamborghini espada S2 # 8348. The car was delivered 1971 to Bob Estes, California I founded my car at the Estes paper on the Internet. In Box 4 (Misc Papers from Box 4) there is a letter, dated June 1, 1971, from Lamborghini to Mr. Armstrong. Unfortunately no further information can be found. Then i asked Jim Fox for more Information, but he can´t find anything abut my car, only the left at the factory at 5/31/1971. Anybody knows more about my car? My car is in a very good condition and completely restored. The history is known to me since 1989, since the car is in Europe, first in France, then the Netherlands and Hungary and Germany now. thanks! tom Image Unavailable, Please Login
Tom & Phillipe: beautiful! Tom, interesting that some chaps use Espadas and Isleros for off-road trials, I would hesitate a little bit ;o))). With respect to the both advertized Espadas, a brief glance suggests that wrong brake boosters are mounted and this may even have resulted in cut-off brackets so that refitting of proper Girlings will not be straightforward. The same with mine and in winter I will make new brackets, including the pressed holes (they have stabilizing function, I believe) and weld them in. Also, not too easy to find a set of proper aircleaner boxes, as neccesary with the Brummen car. Cheers, Bernhard
First time I saw #8348 was in 2001 when it was at a classic car dealer in the Netherlands, where it remained until 2006. Last year I saw the car at Schloss Dyck Classics. A special feature on the car is the position of the rear blinker. You will find this blinker only on mid-S2 cars delivered to US (approx. 35 units in total). As Olivier said your car was originally delivered with champagne exterior which match with the current exterior color. Image Unavailable, Please Login
thanks, yes the engine number is correct 40554, totally restored... the color is champagne....but the interior was black leather, i have pictures before restoration was started (and it looks like 40 years old), maybe it was changed by the dealer bob estes? yes the blinker position is very rare......and schloss dyck classic last year and this year, thats me best tom
verde scuro is a very dark green, I've already seen that color modified in black with retrimming the interior, or like you said it was retrimmed years ago
Kevin provides us with this taxonomy: 7000 7200 early S1 with hexagonal dash and rear grill 7200 7550 late S1 with hexagonal dash, without rear grill 7550 8400 early S2 with Miura style rims and pentagon rear lights 8400 8550 mid-S2 with Miura style rims and rectangle or US rear lights 8550 8900 late S2 with 5-bolt wheels, rectangle or US rear lights, a few of these are delivered with power steering 8900 9100 S3 , power steering available as an option 9100 9900 S3 , standard power steering, this includes the cars delivered with automatic gearbox Here's my question: The "International Lamborghini Registry" contains in its S1 registry, starting with #7533, cars described as "S2" or "S2 dash" or "early S2". Does anyone have any idea why Glen organized it this way? Is there any disagreement in the community with the assertion that any Espada with a "hexagon" dash is an S1, and any Espada with any other dash is *not* and S1?
