Question to the Espada experts: In the lower left photo, we can see the front of the car and a small black spoiler is mounted below the bumper. Most cars I have seen don't have this spoiler, but I have seen it on a couple. Does anyone know 1) if it is factory, and if so, 2) what determined whether or not the factory intalled it or not?
I have seen the exact spoiler before, so I believe it is a factory-produced item. However, most period publications I have seen don't show the spoiler there!

The following link shows the spoiler, but this isn't a period photo.

Here's a pic of the car without a spoiler. All the manuals and brochures show no front spoiler.

Here's the link to my post in the Islero thread about my Espada's wheels.
I didn't post all of the horrific photos of what they looked like naked but some of it is there.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/lamborghinichat-com-sponsored-cats-exotics/139137-islero-thread-49.html#post141427207

Gary Bobileff takes new Eurospares replica wheels and antiques them by banging them up a bit so that they look more authentic ... ;)

THAT wasn't a problem for mine. I did get rid of a lot of junk but getting them perfect looking would have been an insane amount of work. This was crazy enough! I think buying new ones is probably cheaper than having them refinished properly. But that's due to nature of the design of this wheel and the rough casting "quality" of them.

Those Uraco wheels are more modern and much like the 1-piece lightweight racing rims on my GOC Maserati factory race car which I also refinished. I much prefer working on those. :D

    They look wonderful Peter.

An option or the factory started to add it to all of the cars at some point?

It seems like a very good idea from a technical viewpoint but the packaging !
I hate that oil filter setup.

And the 400GT and Islero had that low hanging fruit one in front so I wonder what made them think the the Espada didn't need one?

Does anyone have a spin-on adapter?

400GT and Islero didn't have the oil cooler systematically, again, it was option... there are many period pics of these models without it...

Wait a second here. The spoiler was an option and the oil cooler was an option. Wouldn't the two go hand in hand?

I don't see the spoiler as a visible clue/design issue but as functional one? It's not that noticeable. How do we know this was an "option" that you could order independently like you would a paint color?

Bob H has developed a number of air flow modifications for earlier Espadas.

But were they ordered that way or what?

Did people add them later on?

I could certainly see someone wanting to take the Islero's off out of fear!

Bob has been making modifications for s2 & s1 cars in that area for good reasons - better airflow to the radiator(s).

I don't get the idea of an oil cooler as an option. Probably all them should have had one but with a thermostat as well.

"Hey you want your car to run too hot and need a new engine early or what?" LOL

    Weird ...

As side question. What do you guys think about strapping the cars through the wheels. At their age, do you think they are strong enough to go through and put pressure on their spoke/hole (what size and design the spoke is).

I have always secured around suspension, which sometimes I am not crazy about.

Well, in this particular case it looks like they strapped all the way through the passenger compartiment, which is good. The wheels may add a little extra (emergency) safety, but I would somehow try to avoid putting pressure on them. Like you said, I wouldn't feel happy about that, same goes for using the suspension as a 'brace point'. Risky business if you ask me.

I've seen it done both ways all the time and I don't think it's that big a deal Peter. I don't think I'd go through Miura style knock-offs though. It's best if the belt can lay flat against something flat and smooth. The straps on my trailer would never fit through them and they do have extra slip over padding for where they wrap around a suspension piece.

If it were like that Espada that sat in a Novato field and baked for 20? years maybe I'd be concerned about things coming apart.

I'd be quite pissed if someone ran belts through the passenger compartment and not sure how they could even do that? There's a transmission/drive shaft tunnel. I think they just tucked the loose ends of the belts under the doors to prevent flapping?

Looking at it gain IMHO this car is not properly secured at all. You're supposed to pull the rear wheels/suspension towards the rear (not the case here) while doing the opposite to the front. I think the front is being pulled towards the rear against a bump stop on the trailer and the rear wheels are just a loop through?

use the straps and NET the tyres only .
the way they have done it here is the reason cars get destroyed and paint gets scratched .

If needing to transport a car I use nothing else than this (together with blocks before and behind at least two wheels):

They haven't, just the loose ends of the straps.

Also you should never tie a car to a trailer via the car's body as the car has suspension and must be allowed to move. The correct way to tie a car to a trailer is via the wheels as the wheels are unsprung and will not move. BJJ has a photo of one good way to do this.
